I think that we are getting to a point where in a few more years we will be fighting for food and water rather then oil and other silly things. I've heard many people say that in about 5 to 10 years we will run out of water. I'm not sure if this is true or not but it scares me to even be able to think about something like that. I still think that our food production will continue to hold us, but now that I think about it more, I think that there are many people in third world countries that don't even have food. If our food population begins to run out then we are going to see a lot of political protests about how much food each person should consume and how much would the food cost. I could see boycotts among other terrifying things to come if our food and water supply runs out.

I think that as the years go by the food population and the human population will continue too grow but the human demand for food will be high. Thats where farms will use human growth hormones such as steriods too make the product or food to grow at a rapid rates. i don't see our food population running out at all because most of foods we eat its not really fresh or even real at all its all a process if you want real food you most go over seas where they grow there food the right way. the best food to eat is organic which costs money so most people don't buy it as much. the demand will be for food because the human race will grow really high so stores like publix, winn dixie and walmart will have too restock the stores often and fast to keep up with what we want to eat.........

I think everything is related to population explosion. everything includes, lack of education, poverty, lack of infrastructure, non exisitance of public health care and individual's awareness. If you take a closer look, puplulation explosion happens only in developing country, so we can say that lack of education and so on involve in this problem. as population grows, more food needed ofcourse. however, due to the enormous popullation not everyone get enough nutrients. at the very beginning, why poor country have population explosion? i would say due to lack og education because if they know that unprotected sex will lead to pregnancy whether you want a baby and have ability to raise a baby. We must know that fact, but unfortunaly people in poor country do not know this fact and continue producing miserable children. I said miserable because some babies are born with AIDS, some die right after delivery due to lack of nurtients, and some have to deal with starvation. Think about it, if these babies were born in USA, they wont be suffuring that much. I am not saying that they are happier in USA, but at least they will receive necessary things to survive. Lack of education leads to poor health care too. Because people in poor country dont know what to do when they get sick or unexpected pregnant, they have to follow the natural selection which mean it is up to our bodies whats going to happen. if your immune system strong enough, you will survive, but if not, you will eventually die as well as pregnancy. many leader countries provide health care and food to help these poor people, but we must realize just providing food and health care do not solove the problem. we have to solve the proble from the root. we must educate people in poor country, just teach them how to take care when they get sick, injured, whatever genarall. Also, we must provide another education as a human being like use condoms when they have sex, proper nutrition to everyone, presure of learning or going to school and lots more.

This has been an issue that has been ongoing for years and years. Not many people realize that people are starving in Africa and in various places around the world. In America, we tend to overlook this situation because we have the advantage of having food supplies at every corner of every street. We have to be very fortunate but it is truly not fair for the people living in those areas. Sustainability keeps being a challenge to these areas because human reproduction keeps going at an increasing rate. There is something that we have to do for these people. Seeing them starve while we spoil our food makes it very wrong for our part.

Running out of food due to the fact of population explosion is a very scary thought. Its very emmotional to hear and read about people starving in other countries especially when my pet dogs eat very healthy.I have experienced people at resturants complained about over cooked food, luke warm food and cold food when we have people in other countries just dreaming of one day smelling cook food.I was brought up in a home where my mom always taught me not to waste food because of people who were less fortunate and now being older it makes alot of sense.Honestly i feel like if we continue living the way we do without concerns about tomorrow's food reproduction,we will end up just like the other nations who are in urgent need of help.I think before we can figure out a solution to this problem about food,we must first find out what is causing this problem. We must bring awareness and education about this issue to teach and show other countries how to reproduce food because i feel by just giving them food wont be enought to help due to the fact of population explosion. We must also take into consideration what can we do to solve the population explosion that is occuring. So the first step in solving this problem is by bringing awareness and educating the people on controlling their population and how to find ways to reproduce food on their own.I know in the USA we dont have this issue as of yet but we should also follow these guide lines for future prevention against this.

When I think about population explosion, and the rate at which we're using our resources, I get nervous! I get nervous because I have started a family of my own, and I don't want my offspring living in a deplorable world. I believe the answer is education. Developing countries need to educate their citizens about the issues we will face if we don't control world population. Population explosion could very well be the beginning of our demise. We may need to adopt the population control practices of the chinese people. I also believe that if we're not able to produce enough food to eat, the crime rate will increase dramatically. Only time will tell if we're able to overcome this crisis.

I do believe that the next world war is going to be on food and water. The problem with water is not that their isn't enough. The problem with water is that not everyone has the same good quality of water as others. And those who do have it, take it for granted. I think that the world is too over populated and people need to limit the amount of kids they have. We are never going to be able to reach sustainability if the rate of growing population continues this way. I do believe this is the only way that we will be able to regulate food production. Less people, then less people to eat then less food production.

as humans we think that food and water are going to be around forever. we fail to realize that like everything else neccesitys disappear, especially the bare ones.

it scares me to think that food is scarce already and that there are people who are literally starving. soon enough we wont worry about an oil deffecit or power surges. we will ne worrying about where our next meal would come from. all though the governmet says that they can avoid this terrible issue, they fail to understand that this problem isnt fixable by government means.

Population growth is a major issue to certain countries a less of an issue for others. Food production however, seems to be much more of an issue and together they both make a serious problem worth analyzing. I think that the solution lies in a systemic approach to not only limiting our population but much more importantly feeding it. The fact that so many starve in countries is ridiculous in light of the food wasted in others. If we lose the apathy and ignorance we could better feed a greater amount of people. This in turn would help them as individuals and countries produce more. It’s simple; you need energy to make energy and food is energy so if we share it we will see more of it.

In my understanding, the problems addressed here are the overpopulation that exists in some countries and even parts of continents like in the Sub-Saharan African, as well as food shortages that exist in these regions, which are partly caused by the problem of overpopulation. People in these poor civilized countries are starving because of where they live, the desolated areas where life is really hard, where there is no food availability due to the limited resources in those particular areas. On the other hand, there are other countries where people eat more than they should and even throw food away because they just can't eat everything they bought, thanks to the food availability they have. Some of the causes that I can infer are the uncontrolled and unconscious growth of the population in these poor rural areas, the limited knowledge about agriculture, and limited farming resources that these people have. There are things we can do to overcome these problems, like for example, campaigns of awareness about birth control, not necessarily to support the use of contraceptive methods, but teaching them about the natural methods that exist to delay or control their reproduction, and about the intelligent decisions that could help them to have a healthy and quality life. On the side of the limited availability of food, we can help them to improve their knowledge on how to farm more effective by offering them methods and tools.

I believe that like most of the problems we face not alot will be done with food population until it is almost to late. The first affects will be by pricing and instead of people watching oil prices they will be watching the cost of chicken. I have heard of some solutions that the University of Miami are working on at their division of Marine Biology and fisheries. They are tring to farm certian species of fish that would be used for consumption. From what I understand they have been sucessful.

First and foremost there is nothing wrong with over population. It would be a big problem if one couldn’t reproduce. Now, the problem is feeding the 800 million people in South Africa and being able to substain their population. Africa is known to have vast jungles so their soil must be enriched with nutrition’s that can grow trees and plants or crops. The first step of helping them would be educating them on growing crops instead of killing endangered animals, and teaching them good hygiene.

Next step is to impeach the president or leader for letting this happen and not helping his people. And finally South Africa needs to admit that they have a problem and they need everyone’s (all countries) help to rebuild and have sustainability. If only, it would be easy doing this, because a country like Africa has so much pride and would never ask another country for help. They would rather suffer and let many of people died every day, week, and year. However, it’s not the developing countries fault. It’s the leaders that are elected and never impeached whom never try to help the country grow. The leaders never try to add new technology, highways, power grids, or even telecommunication for their people. The leaders would rather pocket the money that other countries give them for help. If I was to donate my money to any country I would make sure the money goes into helping people not the leader. If Africa could have half the stuff America has (cell phones, TV, water to drink or bath, a bed to sleep on), there wouldn’t be a problem. Africa needs to step up and say not show they need help. And whoever decides to help needs to make sure things is done correctly.

The world population and food production problem lies clearly on the distribution of the supply. Many countries live its full potential, such as my family. There is not one day that I don’t go to the fridge and feed myself, unfortunately not everyone has that capability, and it really relies on wealth. Africa, Asia and Latin America are known to be the third world country, and they are also the poorest of the world. The most likely cause of that is the underdevelopment of their country, they have little or no science and technology of efficient production or education. It also undergoes with corruption. Many people look up to the government and desire their help. Politics and government affect the rate of people’s wealth and sometimes even drives them to poverty, such as Africa. Africa got their independence with the help of the British and other European countries, but with that help came corruption and poverty. As Africa stands today they are harmed with diseases such as malaria and food shortage. I believe that this must be clearly dealt with and needs necessary thought in order to bring a stable country to order. Overpopulation is also a great problem to Africa, they urgently need more development in their country and need to be provided with more education and more technology.

World hunger has been an issue for decades and yet it continually gets worse every year. As the population grows, world hunger gets worse. I think the answer lies in population control. The only way to combat this issue is to some how work on population control. Once the Earth reaches its carrying capacity, this issue will just get worse. We need to impose some sort of birth control and allow only individuals who can provide enough food for their children. China has laws in place because of the over population problem that they are having as well. Many people would argue that this goes against morals and rights of individuals, but what’s worse people starving to death or infringing someone’s rights? I believe that people should have the right to have as many children as they would like to if they can properly take care of them. The question is clear to me and I believe that this problem will never be solved without some population control.

Growing up in the United States we are not exposed to the issues of population explosion and sustainability. This is not a problem that we have to deal with on a daily basis. It's really sad what goes on in these poor countries, their population is too large to be supported by their resources. I think the whole issue boils down to education. The people in these countries do not have the resources to get this education and I think it's definetly something that needs to be addressed and made more available to them. The thought that this can happen to us seems unlikely but definatly is not impossible. Personally I feel that we have a huge problem in this country with unplanned preganancies and mother's having children they can not support. The sad thing is we do have the education to know what to do but some people choose to be ignorant. It all comes down to the fact of awareness, awareness about the effects of overpopulation and sustainability. We should be aware of the effect we have on our environment through overproduction and how that will in the long run effect us aswell.

I being born in Central America and traveling different countries to finally end up in the United States of America have somewhat experienced the importance of food. While in central America my mother a single mother of five had to struggle to put food on the table, but we never went to bed hungry. My mother taught us the value of food to eat everything on your plate, to be thankful for the food we have because we never knew what the next day would bring. We were always thankful and still to this day I practice this to eat everything on the plate there is to much wasting of food it is true there are so many hungry people who would give anything to eat what we throw away in America. I work in the health care business even there they throw away food by the tons. In fast food restaurants if a customer was given the wrong meal ordered what do they do? throw it away. In America we take food for granted. What other third world countries would give to have that food that is being thrown away? I do believe that there will come a day where we will run out of water and food supply. Our population is growing demand is going to over exceed supply. We have to somehow put an end to this waste of food in America.

Not knowing how hard it can sometimes be for one to find something to eat in certain countries, here in the United States we take a lot of things for granted. What I mean by that is that sometimes we let some of our food go to waste while there are a lot of people around the world that are starving. How we can in my opinion solve this crisis is that we have to change some of what we have been doing that has not been working. Us that live in America we need to approach the situation on a personal level. We need to start providing better help for the people that are in the other countries. Also another way we can help is by recycling. For example, just to name a few, in countries like Haiti, Africa a way that I think they can solve this situation is by going back to what they used to do back in the days. Such countries should stop relying on exterior production and start the production of foods and goods through farming. Of course this might not be the entire solution, but in my opinion this would be the best way to start.

I think that the biggest problem we (as in the USA), as well as other developed countries face, is the paradigm shift that needs to take place in order to solve the crucial problem of world hunger and food sustainability. We need to change our attitudes from our aloof culture that is set on the immediate gratifications, to that of an urgent problem solving society. It is not that we don't car persay (for example there are many organizations that raise money for the needy, and most people will donate some money if approaiched in person). We need to think of the entire world as our country, and not just this boardered land that we call the United States. I can recall many times that I've heard people say such statements as, "We need to help the needy here in this country first, before Africa". This type of rationalizing says a lot about how we feel as a country. Maybe we have a "team" mentality which displays a form of competition and comrodory. This is not always a bad thing, but when it comes to children starving to death, I think most of us would agree that it should never happen, and affiliations with countries is irrelevant. To solve the actual problem of food shortages, I say that we (as in all human beings) adopt a diet of vegetarianism. This would elliminate the need to feed all of those animals, and instead we could feed that food to the people who need it the most...Wherever they are located. Afterall, all humans are our responsibility. We are all connected.

I think that we as Americans do not take this topic too seriously. Hunger and poverty is really huge in these 3rd world countries especially in Africa. Here in the U.S. we have a huge opportunity that others in the world wish they had. We take our food consumption for granted. Sooner or later I dont think we will be running out of food or water but eventually I think that the pricing for such commodities will be crucial. The food industry would have higher prices and poverty will increase if we as humans don't work together to help others in need. So with that being said I believe Sustainability will play a huge role in how the food productivity plays along with higher rates in population.

America is one of the most obese nations in the world so it is shameful to hear about the millions of people starving each day. Resturants provide two to three times the portions a single person should eat, and the left overs either get thrown away or taken home for our dogs. Americans are extremely consuming and wasteful and almost ignorant to the fact that world population is exceeding food production.
I specifically remember a night at the dinner tables almost fifeteen years ago when I refused to finish the dinner on my plate. My mom scolded me, and told me about the kids who didnt have any dinner. I got up, went to the study and brought back an envelope and began stuffing my greenbeans in it, and told my mom we could send them my left over dinner to help. If only it was so simple...
It is not simply about the lack of food production but also the lack of education in these third world countries on birth control, farming techniques, and water supply. I think birth control is essential to keeping our population at a manageable state. People need to take personal responsibility and not bring a life into this world if they cannot care for it, atleast that is my opinion.
It just seems so unbalanced that America has Costco and Walmart Super Centers while across the globe people are starving. Developed countries need to help these countries that are suffering whether through funding, farming education, contraceptives- Anything to ease the situation. Awareness needs to be spread and people need to get fed!

I believe overpopulation is caused not only by the lack of education, but religion plays a part on it too. Most overpopulated countries are developing ones where there’s a lot of poverty and people are uneducated. In some countries religion prevents women from using birth control therefore leading the worlds population increase at a very fast rate. Overpopulation causes world hunger, there’s a direct correlation between both. Most hungry people live in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, where populations have grown fastest in recent decades. Children are the most vulnerable to be affected, many of them die from malnourishment while others live with illnesses and malnutrition. I think what China is doing to control the overpopulation rate is great, other countries should do the same because controlling population density is the only solution.

Ok, currently we have enough food for everyone in the world. The problem is distribution and price. Americans don't worry about a shortage of eggs or bread at Publix, yet people in developing countries do. If some of our food goes over there then it's all good. The problem is, however, that people are growing (as increasing population) faster than the growth of necessary land of more food. Therefore in the future the risk of not having enough food for the world's people is detrimental. Fresh water supply is shortening also but I believe we will just start using the more costly process of removing salt from the seawater and charging a higher price. Since there is only so much land to use for crops I believe the answer to this is as simple as building up, as in a skyscraper. Instead of having people in them (for dense/urban living) it will be crops (for dense/urban growing). But this can only go for so long until we can't go up anymore. This is in a long long time from now. We need to fix distribution today.

I think all of the aforementioned factors are responsible for the disparity between food production and population explosion. This issue must obviously be addressed immediately to avoid increasing devastation in the future. Living in the United States, it is easy to overlook certain issues, and this seems to be one of them. Because we have food readily available, it seems the majority of people are insensitive to the fact that there are others who are not able to eat enough to satisfy their hunger. Lack of education, as well as poverty, are huge factors in this terrible equation. Furthermore, we are depleting our resources at an astonishing rate. This places heavy strain on the planet, and there is only so much it can handle. However, at the rate things are going, it seems more likely that we will harm ourselves far worse before that point is reached.

We are digging our own graves. We must find a balance between food production and world population before it‘s too late. This is easier said then done, the intricate complexities this crises evokes are transcendental. We must simply find the correct perpetual solution for the world’s current instability issues. One method would be to raise food production, but this would apparently hinder sustainability. Therefore, the most logical answer I can discern, is that we much gradually diminish the world’s population. I’m not advocating genocide, I’m merely suggesting that we must advance our technology with respect to birth control. There is abortion, euthanasia and other controversial methods to achieving a suitable decline. However, we don’t need resort to these primitive methods. We are in a technological era of advancement, I don’t believe technology is a panacea, but I do believe it will alleviate many of our daily hassles considerably. If we truly desire perpetual equilibrium, we must advance our existing technologies in all facets of life. We as humans are in a destructive path to an austere inevitable demise. We most start focusing on the things that matter and defer the things that shouldn’t matter.

As American’s we tend to forget about over population and starving people, due to the fact that in US, apparently we don’t suffer hunger. If we see closely we can see that we do not have to travel to Africa to be part of this issue. Even in our own continent America we can experience over population and people dying of hunger. Developing countries such as Haiti, Guatemala and other suffer this, due to the lack of education among their citizens, the way they have been raised and the way the live life. Normally in developing countries a family consists of 5 members or more, making difficult for the head of the family to bring food to their house. On the other hand we have countries which have a lot of food that they eve through food to the garbage. I think one solution would be education and making citizens aware of such problems.

I think that people believe that the earths resources are limitless when they really aren't. The sad thing is that the people who don't get enough food are the ones living in areas of poverty with large populations. If birth rates climb then natural resources get used up faster than they can be replaced. More should be done to decrease high birth rates in less developed countries so that there won't be a limited amount of food and water in the future. We can do this by showing women in those countries that have less formal education about birth control so they can be aware of it.

People depend on food and water. If the population continues to increase, obviously the demand for these products will increase as well. Many waste water like it's nothing and buy excessive amount of foods that end up being thrown away. I don't exactly believe there won't be enough, because after all we have farms and food is always being processed. If anything, prices would be a problem, but I can't imagine running out of food nor water, at least not now. Instead of leaving food to spoil or untouched, it should be bought wisely.
It's been over years where population continues to grow and food and water have not been 'extinct'. Of course, there are the poor and in several countries it's difficult to even have one meal. But as far as there NOT being ANY at all, I doubt that will occur. It'd have to be a drastic change that would provoke that to happen. Other than that, it's all about budgeting and remember that kids in Africa and South American countries don't have the opportunity to eat as much.

World hunger is a serious problem, not only the population is increasing; we are not producing enough food for the 6.7 billion people we have here on earth. Many people argue that we should try to have fewer babies so we can have more food to feed the world. However, I don’t believe that would solve the problems because the same way that everyday millions of babies are born is the same way that everyday millions of people are dying. For instance, many people are dying from: diseases, cancer, heart attack, car accidents, earthquakes, hurricanes etc…
Moreover, I believe we have enough food to feed the world today; the problem is the poor have a hard time getting access to food. Because in most places even if the parents are working it is often hard to feed themselves and their children because there are not getting paid enough. Some people are throwing food away everyday while others are starving to death, and there are criticizing the poor and yet they didn’t choose to be poor. We need to focus more on finding new ways to create more food to feed the world instead on focusing on certain type of technology or luxury items. What we need is more important than what we want.

Yes, I do believe that this world has exploded in population more so than ever before. But all that has past will come to be one day again, and with that I mean-we will eventually get to a point where the human race will destroy it's food supply along with their existance. The animal kingdom consists of the strong dominant animal who preys on the weak. I am not concerned about loosing water supply because there's always machinery that makes water from air. But as far as the human race and the food supply...it is destined that one day we will be hunting each other in order to survive. it's been done before, it will be done again. We are part of the animal kingdom and until we start realizing that our intelligence should be utilized to progress- we instead will be overruled by our instict to hunt when hungry. When we find ourselves without animal meat, poultry and seafood-the rats and insects are said to provide a great source of nutrition-not to mention roaches can survive atomic bombs. :-) Otherwise-we will turn canabilistic.
