Back on this topic again. Well i consider this issue of great concern because i believe this nation should know everything but sometimes knowing everything is not good. Therefore the more they let this issue known to the public the harder it is going to be to get rid of it. I find it absurd how this country has government officials arguing like fifth graders. He said she said type of discussions. They're more important things government should be doing. Wikileaks along with other domains that leak out information will not stop doing what they do and that is exactly that leak information some important some not. it is up to the government to deal with what should be said and not people are always going to want to know whats going on, no one likes to be in a blind relationship.

WikiLeaks is probably the best example of freedom of press in this country. Unfortunately, now-a-days news papers and media have fallen into the liberal or conservative sides and choose cautiously what to report. Although controversial, WikiLeaks dares to publish the truth, regardless of the consequences this may carry. This, however, might be a double edge sword because certain details should not be disclosed to the public in order to protect other things. On the other hand, it is imperative that Americans know if their leaders are corrupts, if banks are stealing their money, or if someone is covering wrong doings. WikiLeaks, with all of its downfalls, might as well be one of the best things that have happened to this country. Corrupt people and those who avoid taxes should pay for their crimes (as tax evasion is illegal) and put out for people to know. Every day Americans are put to jail if they evade taxes, yet, high powered people manage to get away with it, and this is when WikiLeaks becomes useful. In the end the law is for all, or for none.

Since WikiLeaks was established it has brought out the truths that many governments have been hiding under the table. Governments are instead trying to get rid of Wikileaks. Why? Well simply put that the government doesn’t want us to know the truth about how they are evading paying their taxes and many other things that have yet to surface on WikiLeaks. Rudolf Elmer is only telling the truth and I don’t see myself hating him for what he is doing. Honestly he’s not acting alone why try to capture this man rather than finding all the people who are giving him this very secretive Intel about their government.

The media and politicians alike are always sensitive to their own mistakes. Where is our economy now? Drowning in financial blunders. Why did this happen? While everyone points their finger at someone, we should have tried WikiLeaks sooner. I feel like it's a way to put people on the spot. What is their to hide from the public? We are what make companies grow, should we not know then how our used money flows along from person to person? If there is no wrong doing then let them stand by their decisions and point of view. These people who get away with criminal acts are as unjustified in their actions as someone who robs other people. So then why not let them face the judge and jurors? I find it hard to trust anyone, be it corporations or governments, these days who run things so secretively. Their excuses come from lies that were made in the beginning, and those lies grew holes that needed more mischief to draw attention away from them. WikiLeaks shines through those very gaps and lets everyone know when those poorly patched up work occurred. Opening an opportunity for everyone to see the flaws and take action into building a more stable roof.

Throughout ever nation, there is nothing more precious than liberty.Without doubt, each and every human beings on the face of the earth, should have the right to their opinions, freedom from oppression. Julian Assange and his organization is probably the best example of that.Wikileaks hides behind the First Amendment that protects them against press oppression, but it has made a complete ridicule out of free press. Assange have the liberty and right to release all those documents revealing all kinds of classified information. However, it doesn't make it right for him to release those document. Freeper once said, "Just because you have the right to do something doesn't make it right." He uses to obtain a piece of moral high ground and go after those who take free of press too far, such as Assange. He hacked and releasing information that could potentially damage many individuals. They have no desire to expose any corrupt political crimes. Their only desire is to spreading their fame and bring monetary profit, but who were are to judge another person. Like the article said, "there is no true democracy without a free press" and that is absolutely correct. Every human on this earth has the right of freedom including Julian Assange.

After reading a little bit about WikiLeaks, I have gotten very impressive. In other words, it is excellent that those secrets hidden by governments come out. From my point of view, making incorrect things public is a very strong way to combat all these evil people— including companies, banks, presidents and other politicians— around the world. However, we must take in consideration that the WikiLeaks founder— Julian Assange— could be having fame as his true objective. People are often obligated to do things that may seem terrible, which are necessary to achieve positive outcomes. Along with this, it is possible that these justified things are the ones included in Assange’s articles, but seen by athe negative side only. As a whole, I consider that every single person should be careful with what we read and believe. Publicity is a very complex field, which can confuse us very easy.

Before reading this blog I didn't know much about Wiki Leaks. After doing a little bit of research i think its a superb idea. our government cover up way more than they should from the tax paying citizens. We have the right to know some of what goes behind close doors, and not to be in complete confusion. If it takes this organisation Wiki Leaks to provide us some of the resources for us to be more aware then so be it. Obviously there will be many to oppose Wiki Leaks such as those trying to evade taxes, and those who have alot to lose. They shouldn't be doing anything illegal to begin with anyways. It might have its pros, and cons but i personally think its great.

Before reading this blog, I have heard of WikiLeaks, but I did not know too much about it. After reading up about it, I realized that WikiLeaks is an international organization that publishes submissions of private media from anonymous sources and news leaks. WikiLeaks states that its purpose is "to be of assistance to people of all regions who wish to reveal unethical behavior in their governments and corporations." I think WikiLeaks is just an example of our first amendment rights, freedom of press. WikiLeaks may be a controversial organization, and to the big companies, banks, presidents and other politicians, WikiLeaks is their enemy. However, WikiLeaks provides insight about the things we do not know about. WikiLeaks, like everything else in the world, has pros and cons, but I think their purpose is mostly beneficial.

I never knew about WIkileaks until this post, and to be honest, I am glad that there is something out there keeping the people informed on the wrongdoings of this world. With all the power the government has on what goes out into the media, Wikileaks is the solution. The government conceals everything from the public and I find this to be unjust and immoral. We as Americans have the right to know what our government is doing and it’s not just America, every country deserves to know what their government is doing. In this day and age, trusting our political figures will get us all killed. They lie, cheat, and steal and are able to successfully get away with it. Well, that was until Wikileaks. We now have a way to see these dictators sweat. If the political figures disagree with the purpose of Wikileaks, then they too must be corrupt and soon enough their evil doings will be revealed to the public.

If those individuals and companies haven't done anything wrong, they have nothing to worry about,I don't see Wikileaks as a threat. They only provide the information that is kept secret from the world wide citizens. It is a great goal to achieve something like Wikileaks. They opened our eyes! Wikileaks provides untouched sources, real informations, and opens the curtains. Ron Paul said, “In a free society we're supposed to know the truth, In a society where truth becomes treason, then we're in big trouble. And now, people who are revealing the truth are getting into trouble for it.” So what is the exact problem that they are facing from wikileaks? All wikileaks can do is what any responsible press would do - publish this material.

The founder of WikiLeaks , Julian Assange, proudly claimed to have uncovered more classified information than all the rest of the world press combined. Wiki-Leaks an “evil organization”? Of course anyone trying to protect their position would not want to be exposed by this political TMZ. This non-profit organization is not likely sensitive in recognizing what information can blow your spot. Major props on being anonymous and leaking all types of so called “classified documents”. But there is a limit. I don’t encourage the unlawful tax evasions or publishing of top secret information when it can put someone’s life in danger. I don’t think Wiki-Leaks is a "good" or “bad” organization. They just bring concern to issues not on the surface. Why should we have to pay for individuals or companies crimes? No matter their authority or level in American politics, this country’s laws and covenant should apply to every citizen.

Before reading this post I actually had not one idea of what wiki-leak was. After a bit of research I realized that this website basically just keeps us in the know of what government and higher ups try to hide. Of course those who are the one who have information to hide wouldn’t approve of such a website. It’s basically paparazzi for the government, bank, and higher authority relinquishing information to the public. This website has it pros and cons, but in my honest opinion I think that this website is great. Everyone wants to have a little insight on what there government is doing, especially what they’re doing wrong. Just as the government tries to find out what we regular citizens are not doing. For anyone who can refer this website as an “evil organization” in my opinion probably has something that they themselves don’t want brought to public eyes. I don’t know the reason as to why the founder of wiki leaks Julian Assange would develop a website such as this, whether it is fame or to just let be known what wrong is being done. For whatever that reason may be it is a great website in my opinion.

I truly find Wikileaks to be very resourceful. In this and age where most news or events are pretty much held top secret it’s a pleasure to have such an outlet to give us the people an opportunity to get to see vids, files, and pics that are usually withheld from us. The government should not restrict whats posted on the internet especially if it’s considered free press and it’s not harming anyone. Julian Assange was just the messenger relaying vital information to the masses. What is democracy with secrecy or hidden agendas, it doesn’t seem so democratic to me. We as a nation deserve to be in the loop and prepared for whatever is out there that can possibly harm us. Wikileaks might be causing quite a storm across the world specifically the U.S., but it’s paving the way for more investigative journalism and to all the people who enjoy being informed. -Jonas Metayer

The argument over the eminent website wikileaks has raised many issues in a tough time where basically the national security has faced many challenges. It is quite clear that people privacy should be respected. At this point, whoever failed to do that should pay the price. The main priority of this website is to keep information confidential. What will be happening when they fail to do their jobs? It is totally a violation of the law. There is no way we can let this happen. As it reveals all the secrets information from people around the world, it basically gives the terrorists a hint about on different sectors and most likely how to confront them. I believe that there should be some serious sanctions to take over the wikileaks founder for his carelessness. Responsibility is the biggest thing that provides you with a higher standard of knowledge. If you agree with them you are most likely to lose your money from your bank account in the next couple days.

Sites like Wikileaks expose withheld information to sometimes “protect” us or to deceive us. But can they really say they are protecting us by holding back this information about tax evasion and other criminal activities. We the people forget the government is supposed to work for us, even though at times it seems as we work for them. Information like what was posted on Wikileaks is vital to keep companies from cheating on their taxes along with other criminal activity. However they should be cautious on what kind of classified information is posted, information that can breach homeland security or compromise the lives of soldiers overseas. I find myself in between freedom of speech and national security, should Wikileaks be able to post whatever information they acquire or should they be punished for posting whatever they like. In reality, they should thoroughly think about the consequences of posting such information before doing so.

Let free press rain, it’s one of the only ways we could get the government back on their toe’s as it was in the earlier decades. Wikileaks is a great display of a real democracy, and it informs us as the people what are government doesn’t want us to know. Yet I find a draw back on some of the information that is being leaked out, some of the news that is kept from the public’s eyes is for a reason, being that we may not be able to handle some of the horrific report and it would the nation at a stand still. But on the other hand the news about different political figures committing tax evasion and other whit collar crimes, lets us know whom we are dealing with and what we need to do to keep these people out of office. Moreover, let us hope that this is just the start of the reviving of free press and let it stop being controlled by the government.

I believe I play the devil’s advocate when it comes to WikiLeaks.Befor reading this post I never even knew Wiki Leaks existed, but now that I am informed about it I think many pros and cons can come out of it. First of all it has to be seen from both perspectives. Through the Eyes of an American civilian it could be a good resource for us to find out what the government actually hides or try to get away with. But in the eyes of National security Wiki Leaks can also pose a threat to our nation by exposing delicate information that can have us in a terror attack. To completely band wiki leaks I think wouldn’t be such a good idea because many American do like to be informed on what the government is actually doing with our hard working tax dollars. But another thing that’s pretty interesting is how such important documents and military tactics get to the hands of wiki leaks this actually goes to show that we are not as tightly secure as we think we are. People in the higher power are taking advantage of what they know and mostlikly making a little profit out of it.
Wiki Leaks should have a limit to what he exposes to everyone as to some could be a benefit and some can cause complete danger.

I am just simply astonished at how Wiki Leaks has actually stood up and released confidential information. I really admire the way it has revolutionized the release of information. Before Wiki Leaks, people had to relay on the news provided in a completely bias manner. What really hits me is how corrupt the government truly is from withholding information to the citizens. I feel that it has been a great success for Wiki Leaks since their launch back in 2006. I know that many people and government are extremely mad at Wiki Leaks for releasing confidential information, but sooner or later the truth would have come out to the open. The fact that the former Swiss banker released information to Wiki Leaks demonstrates that there are many secrets that are being hidden from the people. Those people in the list should be most definitively tried for their illegal actions of avoiding taxes.
It is great how Wiki Leaks always managed to stay afloat even after many people try to bring it down. I simply don’t understand why information is hidden from the public when we are supposed to know so that we can support our democracy by making the right choices. It is unjust that someone speaks the truth and then he/she/it becomes the center of attacks. It is just simply unfair for the people that they depend on their government, yet their government acts behind their backs.

WikiLeaks is a blessing in disguise, at first it creates an enormous uproar but only later do people understand how useful it really is. My first encounter with WikiLeaks is when they released the video of the Reuters photo journalist being shot from an American attack helicopter. If you watch the entire video you will understand that the world in which we live in very, very complex. The video was released not to show how the Americans are trigger happy during war but to show us how collateral damage takes place during war. You can hear the frustration in the voice of the helicopter pilot as he keeps circling for a better view, you can almost sense the stress he is under as he is about to open fire not knowing well enough that his target is innocent. I applaud WikiLeaks for what it is doing, it also showed us that our diplomats are actually human and do the best they can behind doors to prevent conflict. In my opinion this is just the tip of the iceberg, bit time whistle blowers are in and old school espionage from the time of the cold war is out.

Until 11.30a.m this morning (Tuesday, January 25, 2011) I was not aware of the existence of a web site called www.Wikileaks.com. I did quick research later in the afternoon mostly from Wikipedia.com and Google of course. At first I was fascinated by the ideas of the creator of the webpage, to expose to the public top secret documents, government cover-ups, war kills etc. All the documentation is in its original form, no eraser nor black permanent marker on them.

Along with my excitement came and the doubt how dangerous this web media can be. There are millions of hackers ready, willing and able to use any information they can find and harm innocent people just to get rich. We live in the 21st century and cyber crimes are more lethal and effective than ever. They can have my information for example, name, SSN, bank statements, credit history. My opinion is to shut down this website immediately.

There are many factors, which may be causing that 45% of College students do not learn much. For example, their busy life prevents them from studying as much as they need. In other words, since most of them work and study at the same time, the academic performance is not satisfactory. Along with this, we have to consider that many students in college are pretty old— people who are 40 and older— and consequently, their ability to learn is not as good as young people’s. However, I think this must be solved quickly because all these undergraduates are not improving their educational skills, but they still continue passing classes and reaching degrees. As a result, I am afraid because they are going to be the future professionals of our society—doctors, engineers, teachers, and others— and it would be very sad if one day someone goes to a medical appointment and the doctor doesn’t have the educational level that is expected to have.

What is amazing about Wikileaks is that it is raw information. Newspapers and other sources of news merely interpret the news; they can twist a story to seem more troublesome than it is or to favor a particular political ideal. What Wikileaks does is provide the reader with the actual documents; in a way it is a database of truth. It is not about how the founder or those who post the materials interprets the material, it is about the material itself. It cuts the middle man and places the reader at the frontline of the truth.
Moreover, Wikileaks truly exemplifies the ideal of the free press. Governments and politicians have gotten used to making under-the-counter deals and not having to take responsibility for their actions. Wikileaks places a reminder that the government is not of the politicians, but of the people, that their wrongdoings will not go unnoticed. In a world where the richer get richer, it is time for someone or something, in this case wikileaks, to expose their true nature and corruption.
Wikileaks shows the rest of the world that governments should have transparency and that they should not keep secrets from its people. Just like in any relationship, secrets only hurt it. In a similar way, when the government keeps secrets from its people it is only hurting this relationship. The people are supposed to be well informed and the government is supposed to serve the needs of the nation, neither of which is accomplished through secrecy, only through transparency.
Wikileaks is sure to become bigger and better in the future, showing other sources of media how information should be presented to the general public and that the saying “knowledge is power” still applies in the 21st century.

How many secrets can the most powerful nations of the world keep underneath the sheets? Secrets are like drops of water filling up a glass, and today those glasses are full of water waiting to overload. Wiki-leaks, badly said, has revealed the truth of the governments especially those secrets kept by the United States. While the government do their amazing job by arresting those (normal Citizens) avoiding the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), people with power (money) do whatever they want. I see that the problem here is knowledge. The governmental identities around world are afraid that worldwide citizens know about all this because once they know, they will have the power to make decisions. They rather have someone ignorant, so the advantage taken over that weak mind is greater. We believed we lived in a democratic country, but the moment that our mind is forbidden by knowing the answers to all those questions in our head, democracy becomes another disposal tissue. If I am asked whether governments should or should not be afraid of wiki-leaks, I would just say, “Look how governments have been reacting to these situations since 2007.” Wiki-leaks is providing or opening the eyes of the regular citizen who for years has lived under the untruthfulness of governmental identities. Governments should understand that if they want to finish or eliminate the wiki-leaks, the big walls between citizens and secrets should be destroyed. In other words, governments have to reveal its secrets.

It is subtle, but it is there, for us to know what is currently occurring within our government and changes that we are importantly informed by all means, of what our government actions are. Wikileaks is a valid source of what U.S citizens need to see; the truth and realism of actions we make, whether in war at Afghanistan or measurements we take to secure our own people when nature inflicts its wrath, the measurements and even the idleness to commit the task of assisting our own people. Therefore, it is a life necessity and viable for wikileaks to inform the mother country of its very on lack of contradiction about the Constitutional belief of "freedom" and "speech." Most importantly, it posts the information that is secretly kept under the table about relations with other countries in regards of foreign enemies and friends. Sometimes, a country known for its "greatness" needs a self releasing leak news source for its own citizens to see the faults true actions unmasked by media, we deserve to know, being U.S citizens.

In response to Lisa Cruz,

It is true that WikiLeaks has released delicate information, but you must take into consideration that this has helped to make those lawbreakers pay for the crimes they have committed. Although there is profit behind each release in WikiLeaks, it is done so we can be free and know when others abuse of our tax dollars. I agree with you when you say that banning WikiLeaks is not a good idea. It isn't because the government will be showing a side that is not very convenient for future elections or media attention. Furthermore, we have our First Amendment to back WikiLeaks, Freedom of Speech. Some might say it is a downfall, but honestly, it is this amendment the reason for which we are where we are today, the reason we are free. If we ban WikiLeaks (with all its virtues and downfalls) it will be the beginning of the downfall of freedom in this country.

Upon reading this article I had no prior knowledge of wikileaks and in fact thought wikipedia was involved. After researching the organization the only thing I can give them is kudos. I’m proud to say that the internet can never be censored. The media constantly lies to the public and it sickens me. I’m aware about rights to privacy but there should be exceptions when it comes to morals. I hope they continue posting whatever they want that keeps the rich angry and the individual informed.

Julian Assange and WikiLeaks from what I know has caused anarchy against the “big boys” of our society. While every government, corporation, bank and politician considers this a threat to them and their security, it gives us average people something to open our eyes too. I have nothing major against WikiLeaks and I silently believe it is a blessing because there is a valid source existing out there that will let the citizens of the public know that the grass isn’t always green. That there’s more than a lot of unethical activity going on that we are unaware of. It’s truth that Anderson Cooper isn’t feeding 100% to the public. Although this is bad for the organizations affected by WikiLeaks, it is good in the sense that it serves as a lesson to fill in their gaps and not make careless mistakes because what is done in secrecy can be shared with no restriction.

“The rapid and large scale loss of [journalists] … is an urgent matter of public interest”!!?? I beg to differ. The increase of job lay-offs in Florida is of more concern to me than the lack of job-openings for American journalists who merely help corrupt the truth. We need more nurses in the hospital, not journalist of “independent, public-minded reporting” in those small box office cubicles of theirs. For it is in those small cubicles that the corruption of truth – such as the secrecy of tax evasion of “40 politicians and pillars of society” – takes place. Why does the government find the need to enforce banking secrecy laws? Should we all bail our Chase accounts for fear that banking could be a tool of corruption against society? Otherwise, what does banking (or the government) have to hide – other than customers’ account numbers? With that said, I wouldn’t hesitate to have Wikileaks help seek the answers to my questions. Wikileaks is doing a great job in exposing the truth, and the government and organizations which always seeks to hide the truth is merely afraid of the power of Wikileaks. I’m totally for “the rate of destruction of professional journalism.” Right on Wikileaks!! Write on!!

Wikileaks is an online site that “leaks” out classified information from the government to help it be a more transparent government. It basically exposes the “priorities” the government has for our country. Notice how the dictator of Lybia states that Wikileaks is “evil”. What makes it evil? What injustice did Julian Assange partake in within his website? The downloadable documents on his site contain videos of American helicopters shooting at reporters. Now, please, I would like to know how these reporters had anything to do with the war or even showed any violence towards this particular helicopter. Conservatives may think that it has nothing to do with the people and the government should be left to do what they will, but any government for that matter is supposed to maintain the security of the country, not have officials launder money or have soldiers attack civilians.

It is unfortunate that there are events that are taking place which citizens are oblivious to. To be arrested for being just and held captive in Britain on false charges for having sexual allegations with a minor in Switzerland is quite absurd. Actually its quite ironic really, that our own President Barack Obama received the Nobel Piece Prize. Now, can anyone please explain to me as to what he even did to obtain such an award? What? He has a different ethnic background than past presidents? Okay, that’s lovely. To be blatantly honest, I completely support Assange and his site for informing “the people” of events that would usually be dismissed by the government.
