Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it.- Andre Gide
Whatever makes an individual happy should be granted to them. From a religious point of view, gay marriage should not be accepted. Morally, someone's happiness should not be taken away. Constitutionally, this right should not be revoked from gays and lesbians. Freedom was granted to man equally. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are the rights given to Americans. Restricting the right for a man and a man or a woman and a woman to wed would be contradicting the right. The right was not given with limitations or restrictions. Unfortunately, this country is adapted and accommodated to speaking freely. Many see this issue in the religious perspective, therefore, disagree. Everyone needs to take into account that the Constitution does not require a church to be married (civil marriage). With that said, the rights of marriage should not be revoked from gays and lesbians. Instead, they will benefit from the benefits given to them. I think it's vital for the people to understand the meaning of "unconstitutional". Doing some research won't hurt anyone. Articles like these are great inspirations to read and find out information, understand the government that well, governs us. Now that the elections are coming up, these issues at hand are important to solve as a country, AS A WHOLE.-Kristie Valencia
Same-sex marriage is very common today, but is an issue that is causing much controversy in the political and social sphere. What each person thinks is his opinion and we have to respect what everyone thinks. In my case I was born and raised in a culture and an environment in which to marry a person of the same sex was not correct and that was against God’s law. Now I can tell you that I do not support same-sex marriage but I'm not against it either. I respect the decision that everyone takes regarding to his marriage and the person who want to choose to be their partner. On the other hand, I'll be honest; I do not consider that politics should not be involves in these types of issues. We live in a free country and everyone has the right to choose to marry the person they like and who they feel in love, although of the same sex. Many people believe that homosexuality is an immoral behavior. I do not think so, what I consider immoral and unethical, is that gay marriages walk on the streets, in front of society and especially of children, showing inappropriate behavior. Also, sometimes politician take advantage of these situations when the elections comes and they promise to the people that they will pass the law for gay marriage and once you vote for them, they do nothing as usual. According to California, Preposition 8 eliminates rights of Same-Sex Couple Marry. So they believe that same sex marriage is unconstitutional and that it goes against the moral of our society. Many people are disagree with this law because us as human must have the right to choose the person we merry to. I hope that the government take part in this situation and finally gives homosexual the rights that they deserved.
Same sex marriage is a big controversy nowadays but what’s the big deal? If two people love each other, shouldn’t they be allowed the same rights and privileges, no matter their genders? Same sex marriage is not unconstitutional. Liberty and the pursuit of happiness are rights given to all Americans in the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson and the other Founding Fathers believed that people are born with natural rights that no government can take away.
Do I believe same sex marriage is unconstitutional? No. Do I believe its morally correct? No but that doesn't cause me to prevent or humiliate someones dignity because of who they choose to love. A constitution applies to any "persons" regardless of of gender, sexual preference, character, and race if they all live under one roof. If any of these are discriminated against or contradicted, it is classified as unconstitutional. For us to praise and thank Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr for ending discrimination between races yet here we are today discriminating against sexual preferences (of people who choose who to love) comes to show the nature hypocrisy. Anyone who follows and lives under the SAME circumstances as everyone else should be granted the SAME rights to go along with it. In other words, if a homosexual is a citizen, he should have and pertain to the same rights and rules of that who is a heterosexual. This comes to show that society is afraid of being "equal" with someone who is not of the majority. For some people, the root of the hatred toward homosexuality leans more over to being AFRAID of the judgement they may receive if they were to accept it and be okay with it, which is where emotion conflicts from what society classify as unconstitutional. Homosexuals should be granted the right to marry who ever they choose. Why is "okay" for people to marry inanimate objects or animals yet two human flesh of the same sex cant? Comes to show contradictory world we live in. -Priscilla Brown
Same-sex marriage is in no way unconstitutional. First of all, the government has placed many laws that are canceling out our rights stated by the constitution. Those who agree to these contradictory laws leave it how it is but those who don't agree to it see it as illegal. And what is it really? It is illegal to ban same-sex marriage. It goes against the constitution. Even though it allows states to pose laws, it doesn't mean that it can go against the constitution. If same-sex marriage is banned than why don't interracial marriages become banned to? A big part of it is religion but we all have the freedom of religion. You can believe whatever you want is right or wrong and you can believe in a greater power or nor but meaning you can marry same sex or not. There is no difference. I'm surprised interracial marriage has not been banned for having different religions. The people are concentration on what they believe to control how this society and laws work. We have to concentrate on our rights in the constituion. Some argue that gays are "not normal". Is there proof that this is something they are born with? SOmething that they develop? No! They have no right to separate them from society and deem them as "different". They have no legitimate reason to outcast them and not allow them to have the same rights as everyone else. Those who don't believe that say same-sex marriage argue that it's a horrible and influential site for thier kids to see, that they might turn gay too and believe it's ok. Anyone one can say this about everything else. If someone doesn't believe in smoking and that is bad and they don't want their children to see that it's ok to smoke and it will influence them then that gives the ability to ban smoking? No! You can go on and now ith examples like this and everyone is going to either agree and disagree and maybe one will be more agreed than disagreed but that doesn't it make it right to base it off of beliefs. Because beliefs are a right to all the people and we all have the right to express. A big blame can be put on the government for such things. This can be compared to black segregation. Blacks are no different from whites other than skin color and place of origin. Everyone one has the same amount of bones, same blood, same body systems, same everything. We are humans. We are no different from each other to be destroying the rights of others. If you replace the black with white and vice versa during segregation and slavery, it will the same thing. Meaning it all comes down to what the individuals and groups believe. This is America, a place of freedom, palace to pursue happiness. Not a place to be segregated and be labeled as "different". Maybe people can believe that but as a country, the government is not allowed to diminish their rights and freedoms. The government has become very unconstitutional and the people are being used to following these unconstitutional ways of life. But also us, "We the people...," need to get together how America should and follow the constitution. If the government has to punish someone then let them punish those who are not willing to allow freedoms and rights for others in America with different beliefs. It's ok not to believe in what others believe in but it needs to be understood that no one thinks the same.
@YissellYou make a good point. Politics should not be involved in this issue. This is a choice of the individual. This becomes more of a religious belief which creates such a huge stir in this country because their are so many religions that have so many beliefs on this issue. This should be left to that and nothing else. If people are against it, let them be but don't let them influence the government to make laws on banning it. And yes, most politicians are against it because theres a majority of people who are against it so they will be able to get more votes. It's try sad to say but the way this all works is a disgrace to those who founded the constitution and wanted right for the people. Its become that we all have to believe the same to pursue happiness.
@KristieIf you notice, most of the American people are following a trend. they are letting media and generalizations get to them so they don't work about researching and knowing what the constitution is. Many don't even know what the constitution is. I know that their are many that came from other countries and have their way of living but they need to understand that their is the constitution out there and maybe if more became more educated on it, it will be more understanding for them. Even with citizenships tests, these tests are crap and need to have more on the constitution. And this is not so those from other places not to granted citizenship but they need to understand the constitution since they will be living here. No matter what language and what religion. We all have the right to be in this free country and be granted citizenship if we arrive legally. Everyone single citizen needs to understand that we are in a free country, a country that allows us to have our beliefs but we needs to be understanding of other beliefs as well. I think if this continues, sooner or later this country is going to be segregated in all ways again because people are not understanding the constitution, maybe even another civil war. Who knows what the outcome may be if americans don't get together to make a change.
The world is changing so fast and the best we can do is adapt to the new way of life or stick to our ways without looking down others. If you are in love than it should be your choice on who you are with, but marriage to me is not a constitution issue as it is a religious issue. So no it does not violate in my opinion any constitution bylaws. If the question had been does it violate my religious views than my answer would have been yes it does. First let me say, I do not have a problem with homosexuality or who one chooses to marry. I know for me that is something that would never be right for me to sustain in my life. Being that it is not it is not a constitution issue than one should be able to marry who they want and have all the rights and benefits of heterosexual married couple. Banning such union is a form of discrimination and we as a nation have to far to just slip back into darken days. I may practice my religious belief, but I will not force my belief or ways upon anyone else it does not add or take away from my life. I believe this is also more a political tactic than anything else!
In several occasions, some people’s pride and ideologies tend to affect the pursue of happiness of others. It is a fact that the conservative groups of this country are against gay marriage. Most of them base their point of view on their interpretation of religious books. “Homosexual are possessed by Demons” is one of the phrases used in this article to represent the premises of this group of people. Their conclusion is that these people should not deserve the right of getting married. Their argument looks valid but not sound. It has been proven by science that being homosexual is another of the random opinions given by nature or God however you want to call it. Based on the percentage of testosterone and estrogens the person feels more attracted to his or her own sex or the opposite one. In fact, it has been proved that there are heterosexual, homosexual, and asexual animals. Are demons also interested in animals or are these conservative people talking about something from a dogmatic point of view? Then, if being homosexual is as natural and valid as being heterosexual, we should not have any difference in rights between these two groups as we should not have it for black and white people. Marriage is one of these rights. To many people, love is not related to marriage at all. It is just a way of reaching economical stability and security. If two people of the same sex love each other, they should definitely have the right of being able to reach this stability. Homosexuality is as old as human kind and there are no records of any homosexual person fighting against the right that heterosexuals have to get married. Also, they are not saying that heterosexuals are possessed by demons when the biggest crimes and genocides of humanities have been done by heterosexuals and especially these conservative groups. An example of this massacres were the crusades. Should homosexuals deserve marriage or should the right of getting married be taken away from heterosexual couples? The best way to act in this case is summarized in the popular phrase: “Mind your own business.” If homosexuals are not fighting against the rights of heterosexuals why is it that this group can’t be reciprocal and just let them pursue their happiness? The power of these religious groups fighting against allowing homosexual couples to marry can be compared to them using the same power to fight scientists who had different and, most of the time, correct ideas. For example, many of these scientists were repressed and killed for believing that the Earth had a spherical shape and was not a plane. Today, when we look back we can see how these dogmatic points of view delayed the knowledge and potential of mankind and more than that, how unjust they were. Today, we should not make the same mistake. The sexual orientation of a person should not be an impediment for them to marriage. The marriage of homosexual couples is not a battle to fight; It is just a right that any person should have and should be respected.Andy D.
It all comes down to Democracy. Where 51% tell 49% of the people what to do. Why should 51% of the populations belief control the remaining 49% beliefs. This has to do also will being ran by a democratic president but as stated, that is why politicians can't be involved. It's already stated in the constitution so why should it be touched on again? Are the gays terrorists? No! Are they criminals? No! Are they mutants? No! Are they demons? No! So what's the problem? Nothing? In the constitution(article 4 section 4), it states that each state of the union, the constitution grants a republican form of government. Meaning its a government that works for the people not based on a democratic 51% and 49% rule.In the pledge of allegiance it states:"I pledge alliance to this flag of the united states of America, and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands..."These are the roots of this country. We have gone so far from this to be banning gay marriages.
This subject is a very complicated and personal one in my opinion. In America when it comes to our social, religious and moral acceptance of gays we are still in the Dark Ages. As the article says many countries all over the world already have made same sex marriage legal. This article sheds light on how far back we are when it comes to this issue. Let’s not forget that this is “the land of the free”. Free to marry anyone you want, but not someone from the same sex? Give me a break. We make such big deals of things that we have already seen, know about or presence everyday. If anybody wants to play the religion card let them. As a person raised in a religious environment I know a little bit of Bible and if I am not mistaken in it says that all sins weight the same be it homosexuality or lying so watch for the lighting next time you lie to your boss about why your are late again. Gay people are amongst us, they do the same jobs we heterosexuals do, they fight in our armed forces, they are part of our government so why is it such a big issue if they want to make their relationships legal and enjoy the benefits of being married. Let’s just put it this way in Europe television commercials feature nude women all the time while in our country Janet Jackson showed a half-covered breast and she was almost crucified. I honestly believe there are issues much more crucial and that are affecting us and our future as a country than deciding if we let people that are already living together get married or not, but that is just me.Carlos Gonzalez
Same sex marriage this topic is brought up again in the news. This is why many individuals in the United States are confused, corrupted, and simply brain dead they are really lost with no knowledge in mind of where we came from. First of all, there is no!!! reason to adapt to homosexuality, and the wicked history behind it. I feel that many people are deceiving God, and turning their backs away from him because of their emotions and the love of another person. Everyone was created on this earth to be fruitfull and multiple. Simply man and women have sex with each other and the women bare children. A variety of people relate their information on religion preferences forget all of that religion is man made.History is something major we need to get back to are spiritual culture with nature and the Heavenly Father. By having the same sex marriage law approved the young generation will not multiple and grow. The young generation of kids will be deceived, lied to, and inherent an unhealthy lifestyle.( DANIEL LOZANDIER )
There seem to be a big uproar for a long time regarding this issue of marriage. As long as we live there will always be gays and lesbians seeking freedom from their, what I will call, bondage of inequality of the santity of marriage into marriage itself. They will have to use another word and not marriage for their union because marriage is a union between a male and a female for the purpose of having godly offsprings. Two men or two women living together cannot do this and we need to be wise on this issue.Whether the constitution allows it yes or no, when we go back to the beginning we will understand the right thing to do, we started off with male and female. I agree with Daniel, where will the next generation come from if we legalize this thing. The bottom line is it is wrong, whose laws are more important? The laws of the land or the laws of God?
I used to think that gay marriage was wrong because even though people should be free to make their own decisions, I felt like in this case it was different since it can effect the kids by what they see. If a gay couple were married then they would have the right to adopt children which means they would see at a very young age, a gay couple being their parents intimately involved. It can give them the wrong idea and lead them to think it's the normal way. After giving it some real thought, I realized that this isn't necessarily true. A gay couple can have kids and as long as their responsible, their kids can be raised normal like any other kids. A person should not be penalized for what he/she is attracted to. Although I would prefer it not happen often, it shouldn't be punished when it does happen. As long as they respect others, like they wish for people to respect them, by not giving our children the wrong idea and keeping their intimacy behind closed doors, there shouldn't be a problem.
As aforementioned in some of the previous posts, it truly should be the prerogative of the individual to ultimately do what makes each of them happy. I do not agree with the intervening of government laws in cases like these, where you are basically being told who you can and cannot marry. Unfortunately, we still and will forever have people who don't see the humanistic aspect of this matter, because they are too naive and close-minded to take into account other individual's views and feelings. Aside from that, I don't understand how certain people view homosexuality as religiously, politically and morally wrong but these are the imposed limitations that will continue to inhibit us from growing as a country. We are all equal and should equally have the right to do whatever makes us happy. I'm sure God would be disappointed in such marginalization.-Brittany Esquijarosa
The United States have had a long series of ignorance when it came to discriminating a group of people. It started with our African Americans, where we put them into slavery and when they won their freedom, we made them feel like second class citizens. Now the same is happening again with our gays and lesbians. They too deserve to have "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness", to have these unalienable rights. All the politicians are doing is trying to take that away. Not allowing them the right to fully be happy, to fully live their lives with the liberty that was given to us the day we were born.I've always believed that love is love and we should never deny the person to publicly announce their love to the world through the sanctity of marriage. There have been many steps towards finally demolishing the segregation of gays and everyone else. It started when Obama ended DADT and I'm sure the supreme court will find that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional and that it is discriminating against a group of citizens. The movement towards equality has already begun and there is no stopping it. There is great support from the gay, lesbian and straight population and sooner or later we will soon have equality for every human being that calls America their home. Its time to make them feel more welcomed.
Marriage is a social union or legal contract between people that creates kinship.Who says it has to be male and female in order to be married and be right? The bible? God? Different religions?Everyone makes marriage how they want to make it. Is it known as a fact that it started as Adam and Eve? All because the bible states it doesn't mean it's 100% truth. We didn't live during that time, we didn't see life wing created. This all comes down to what you believe. Even if the bible is the only evidence that gives a possibility of how life started. Why do we have religions? Because people believe in many different things even at the time where some of you state we should go back to and follow.if its such a mental disease like some say then it shouldn't be a problem for children to grow up around homosexuals, right? If those who believe that homosexuals gave a born disease and still don't allow thier kids to be around them then they must be scared that thier kids might turn homosexual too, meaning it contradicts thier belief in why they are homosexual. So those that say if we make homosexual marriages legal then people are going to take it as normal and go off being homosexual? First of all, legal or illegal, people are still going to be homisrxual and live life like a married couple, just without papers that say they are legally husband and husband or wife and wife. Second of all, it's not being legal or illegal to have homosexual marriages that make people gay. That's all to what gender they are physically and emotionally attracted to. Third of all, if you know how to raise a child, shoulntd you teach them to see everyone as equal and not different no matter thier color, gender, nationality, or sexual orientation. That's like raising them and making then think that Muslims are terrorists. Those who really have a problem with gay marriages and don't want to allow those who want to marry homosexually express thier beliefs then they shouldn't be in this country. This country has enough problems as it is and people who don't respect other's beliefs don't know the real reason why we stand here til this day with the rights and freedoms we have. This is the land of the free.
The constitution says that we separate religion and government. There is no reason that law should even be considered. The only argument that has been proposed against same sex marriage is that the bible says it should be between a man and a woman. But not everyone follows the Christian religion and that's why the separation of religion and government was needed in the first place. It is also crucial to understand that being married is a holy ceremony and Christians should have the right to say no to this proposition, but there are too many laws that need couples to be married; like when one is in the hospital you must be married or family to see them at other times than visiting hours. For such instances as these it isn't right that only marriage between men and woman have these privileges. Overall, there shouldn't be any law prohibiting same sex marriage because marriage is so much more necessary than to just be united. Marriage is a holy ceremony but it has more than everything to do with government and the government cannot discriminate.
We cannot make decisions based on majority rule in cases that regard basic human rights. If we accepted that majority rule was always right, then we would have to accept the despicable claim that if most members of a society are in favour of slavery, then slavery should be allowed. Rick Santorum says that gay marriage should not be allowed because gay couples will not produce children. However, heterosexual couples that marry are not required to produce children; and it would be absurd to say that they ought to be. Additionally, the religious argument is flawed on many levels. For one, there is separation of church and state in this country. Further, the bible says a lot of things that we do not do because they are simply ridiculous. The bible is not an indubitable source of information, so we cannot use it to justify the deprivation of human rights. There is no good reason to forbid gay marriage, and anyone who respects the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness must therefore respect gay marriage. One final point is that this is not a question of whether or not we should approve of people’s choices. Being gay is not a choice. To prove this, I simply must ask a heterosexual person to stop being attracted to the opposite sex and start being attracted just as much to the same sex instead. It can also be remarked that, with all the prejudice against gays in the world, very few would choose it. Thus it is not about approving a choice but about respecting fundamental rights.-Elvis Hatcher
I stil cannot understand why they make it seem such a big deal of same sex getting married one another is not like their breaking the law or doing something illegal or yet hurting someone else. If this is what makes each individual happy then it should be respected whether what religion and their beliefs has to say. Futhermore, some people also disagree on same sex couples for the fact that they beleive that these two cannot raise up a children better than a normam couple but yet there are many times that same sex couples raise up children better than normal couples and if that wasn't the case they can still adopt any kids. This country talks about "Having Freedom" but yet they are discriminating and not letting same sex couples getting married with all of their benefits, rights, and priviledges that they have.
I want to start off by saying ALL MARRIAGE IS WRONG! Just kidding.. But with today’s communication skills, or lack thereof, people seem incapable of marriage or rather, unable to maintain any sort of long term relationship so gay or straight, people are people and PEOPLE SUCK! Just kidding again :) all jokes aside, how is it legal for a 23 year old woman to get married to an 86 year old man without question or consequence, when there is no proof of love? Maybe you’ll ask “how do we know she doesn’t love him?” I’ll tell you right now, she doesn’t because there is no way he can even have sex for more than a minute without having a stroke or something and therefore the sanctity of marriage is lost. A married couple is supposed to be intimate with one another, and consummate there love right? If he can’t get it up, she’s not putting down (at least not with him) so she is most likely getting it from someone else, and the marriage is null-and-void. Now, let’s say they are in a platonic marriage, where no sex is a term of agreement. I still don’t believe that’s ok! That’s not what a marriage is! Or what about a man and woman who meet in Las Vegas, get hammered wasted, and get married. Do they love each other? Because my thoughts about marriage are two people who love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together. A quickie marriage like that is a load of bullshit if you ask me. But two people man and man or woman and woman who have been together for over 20 years, want is to be recognized as a couple by law, and they can’t baffles me. In my honest opinion, they’ve been together for so long why do they even need the title, but I figured that’s not the point. The point is, we are no longer hiding from the fact that gay people are not aliens who need to be fixed, but they are people, just like you and I, and all people have a god given right to love.
In my personal opinion I find that the take that this country has had on gay-marriage is simply and astonishingly ridiculous and I would like to prove my point through a very obsolete and rarely used tool called LOGIC. First let me begging by the greatest compositor of homosexuality, church. I think there is not really much of an argument here because when put under a microscope, many of the thoughts and believes are attributed to God, and sadly we have no way of getting a physical proof from him (I refer to God as him in this case because it is what I have experienced, you might refer to him however you please). But let’s not take this as a dead end and continue to examine the facts. According to the Church gay people are an abomination to human kind or as the guy holding the banner wrote and I quote: “Homosexuals are possessed by demons”. Now that’s what you call creativity, they chose a universal sign of evil an attributed it to gay people, after all, hating is easier and faster than understanding. Well now I would like to present my counter argument to this flawless perspective. As we know God is all knowing. And he created humans in his image, so homosexuals are in fact a part of God’s image. I believe I have just created a very sound argument, assuming of course that the premises are true. But I am going to give religion a brake. I understand crazy it sounds for someone to like a person of the same sex as they are, you can now go back to reading the bible where the magic snake that came out of the magic tree and gave Adam and Eve the magic apple that was full of knowledge. I hope this sounds extremely ridiculous to the religious people, so they can begging to understand how your thoughts on homosexuals sound to other people.
Since we are kids we dream of succeeding and becoming someone we admire. Many times we do things to satisfy and make our parents proud. But many parents teach their children that one of the most important things in life is to be happy. I certainly believe that same-sex marriage is not unconstitutional. Anyone has the right to be happy. And it is sated is it a right. Everybody makes their own choices to be in peace and to life happily. So if some found love in homosexual feelings and this make them happy why stop them? Marriage is an economic convenience but also it represents a bond and a vow. So if it makes life easier to many people why deny it to others? Because there are seen as unequal? Even God says we have to love each other no matter that circumstances you are in. If we really believe in God and in his words than we should let others be happy. Veronica Paredes
