This is my sincere and humble opinion addressing this topic that concerns the whole human kind. I learnt in class that many of the philosophers had contributed something for the process of science and the development for our society. However, this situation, that most people around the world are facing right now, prove and demonstrates mankind’s lack of wisdom. It is very clear that man cannot govern himself. What I mean is that none of us has the solution for it. It is true we are living critical times to be handle, therefore, what remains is to wait for the end of this system of things. I as a true Christian, I view this crisis as a sign on which Jesus told his followers to remain vigilant. Jesus said: "When these things begin to happen, stand up straight and lift your heads, because your liberation is near... .when you see these things happen, know it is near the kingdom of God. Keep awake, therefore, and pray all the time to succeed in escaping all these things that are destined to happen. " Luke 21: 10,11,31,36; Mathews 24:3, 7-14.
I have faith that one day we will see a productive land full of food, where all the people will enjoy freedom and live forever under God’s kingdom. The only solution for our problems is that we need to be guided by God’s wisdom only.

I believe there are many ways to prevent global population growth. I am convinced that in order to prevent famine from continuing to happen, it is imperative to avert population growth. First, these fast-developed countries need an education on how to prevent reproduction. For instance, it may be the case that some people in India have never heard of birth control pills or condoms and we can not expect these group of people to just know that there are methods out there that they can use in order to stop having kids. Therefore, they are going to continue having sex and reproducing because it is in their nature. Second, we as a power nation should help these over populated countries with some type of contraceptive donation for It may be possible that some might know how to prevent themselves from reproducing but they do not have access to these methods of contraceptive due to economic reasons.
In my humble opinion, I think these two particular procedures would help a lot to accomplished less population growth and famine I the world.

It seems to me no matter technologically advanced we have become as a civilization our mentality in general is still very selfish and primitive. Society acts as if global population growth is a disease in which it can't be cured. I believe it is every human being God given right to procreate. I mean who are we to go to another land and tell those citizens of that country you can't have this amount of kids. With all of the vast amount of natural resources all over the world. I can't fathom the thought or idea that there is not enough food supplies or natural resources that can last this earth for many generations to come. If we as a society didn't use so much in exaggeration of what we needed there would be plenty of supplies to go around. I don't believe any government should have the right to tell anyone when and where they should have children.

In my opinion, there are many ways to prevent global population growth. For starters, you need to be well educated. Education is one of the most important resources we human beings can rely on. If many people knew how to use condoms and birth control pills there would be less trouble with the global population growth. In many countries technology has come a long way but there are still many countries that are undeveloped and still don’t use technology yet. In my honest opinion, I believe that if all these fast-developing countries were to help the underdeveloped countries it would help improve our planet in many ways. For one it would help stop global warming. The reason why the weather is horrible and why it’s ruining crucial crops is because of global warming. If we all worked together to help improve our planet we wouldn’t be having these problems.

Thomas Malthus in "An Essay On the Principle of Population" stated that population growth expands in times and in regions of plenty until resources run scarce, at which time nature takes it course and controls the population increase with distress. Historically, as horrible as the Malthusian theory sounds, it is true. The Bubonic Plague in Europe was a sort of natural population control. Before the onset of the Plague, the population of Europe was struggling, and life was getting worse by the day. While this may not be the cheeriest, or most well accepted of examples, it substantiates the Malthusian theory that overpopulation when not dealt with by humans, will be dealt with by nature.

I have always thought that the human race should have a specific limit as to how many times we reproduce. We are over 6 billion people and those numbers are only rising. If it is well known the amount of ecological and economical dangers we are facing, then I don't see why there are people who are allowed to have 5 kids and more. If I were able to make the rules, I'd have a one child limit per person. Meaning, a couple can have two children, but if they seperate and the man, for example, decides to remarry somebody else who does not have a child, then he is allowed to have one more child, under that womans name. However if the new woman already has a child, then they are not legally allowed to have one. Adoption is a different story. A person should be allowed to adopt as many children as they are financially able to support and care for. If, heavens forbid, a persons child should die, they are allowed to have a new one. I know this idea is very insensitive and can sound inhumane. I'm even aware that it goes against many different religious beliefs, but we are living in a very dangerous time. Our earth is overcrowded and our adoption centers are overflowing. Something has to be done. Or else nature will take its course.

I would have to agree on the term that states that a good solution would be to faster the growth and development in poor countries to improve the purchasing power of food buyers.

These countries have been always like this, suffering from hunger and many diseases. In my opinion, first they don’t have any education. They live only because they were borned that is sad to have a live like this. Human beings are destroying the world in all ways and we have every day less. Humans are the only being who destroy for hunger, anxiety, hobby and many more. In my case, I came this country about ten years ago and I have been studying this country and the way we live and can say, with all the food U.S put in the garbage all these countries would survive, for sure. Many People are only thinking in their selves and they are the only exist, everyday wants more and more and life is not like this.

I am inclined to agree with Nubia and her support of the Malthusian theory. Much can be learned by observing the world and the laws of nature. If our population were to rise above sustainable standards for lack of resources and food, then we would slowly be killed off until our levels reach a more acceptable number. That being said, it doesn't mean that we should wait for nature to correct itself, but rather apply our understanding of the natural world and science to find solutions. Chiefly most of the problems stem from our main source of energy. We are still using old and outdated fossil fuels and our next best alternative, nuclear energy is risky as we are seeing the dangers of it currently in Japan. We need to cut past the greed of a few and seriously begin to put into play the new technologies that are available with clean energies, such as solar, wind, thermonuclear and currents. When times become extremely dire, we will see the implement of these technologies more widespread and the greed pushed aside by the sheer necessity for the survival of the masses. Not to be cliche, but as the saying goes "necessity is the mother of invention"

It is a sad knowing fact that those who live in Sahara Africa are eating nine times less than us Americans. What many people fail to acknowledge is that will are unconsciously doing the same to the United State by both diminishing our resources while increasing deforestation and population growth in rural communities.
Given the above statement we can infer that by stabilizing the amount of people we are bringing into the world we can begin to provide an adequate food intake per person per household. We can be begin to provide a set regiment of both food and fuel intake per person per house hold. I’m not insisting that we make such a drastic enforcement like that of Cuba, but enough to where we can begin to allow an agricultural increase. We may also decide to build or nest much of our resources like many people do today, where they may plant an avocado, tomato, or mango tree in their back yards. We need to decrease the amount of sky scrapers, buildings and homes we are building on our swap lands and green land.
We know that because of the high demands in food we are allowing the food industries to inject hormones and other harmful chemicals in to our meats and vegetables which in turn affect our health and chemical balance. We are now prone to more animalistic diseases and are at higher risk of more chronic and serious ones as well. The fact is that at this time we have not found an ideal resolution to the amount of food we consume and our destruction will soon be eminent because of the green house gasses we have created in environment today and in the future because the lack of resources.

wow professor Triff this is a great topic as a matter of fact, today I was watching a documentary on the History channel, about the real causes (non-religious) that are going to end the world and these philosopher, physicists, and scientist (top thinkers in the present time) agreed that this is the number one cause to end the human species. This is a huge problem that human kind is facing right now and that most of us; because of the way our economy is structured which is consists on more and more consumption; don't even realize it. In order for us to be able to have a future with sufficient food for our kids, we need to rationalize and realize that this is not a problem this is a reality that we are facing, human species will end if we continue to waste food the way we are doing. We need to reduce our food consumption other wise we will not exist in the future. Another way to prevent the rising prices of food due to many causes, we need to go bring back the food production to our lands; meaning we need to go back to farming our own land instead of importing everything from other countries, this will reduce greatly food prices because less resources would be use to bring food to our homes.

With this global recession it should put in mind of how we got here and now realize what it is like to be in this position. We Americans waste so much food every day, only 50% of the food grown in crops makes it to the grocery store this does not include the food wasted at home after being purchased. This is a very insufficient agriculture system, there is so much potential energy not being tapped with decaying vegetation. There are many agriculture solutions such as buying locally which would waste fossil fuels from trucks driving long distances or putting in such regulations as no overuse of pesticides and fertilizers. People are very self conscious about their money, but do not realize how much they could save by eating healthy and not throwing food away. America is the leading donating country in the world to developing countries, but this is not enough. Much of the money donated goes to corrupt infrastructures, the idea of saying you donated money and feeling that you did something needs to change. There needs to be a check and balance system in order to have a stable environment in this global community.

I think that the world's population will soon reach a level where there will not be enough resources to supply the entire planet. The earth does not contain enough resources to sustain the enormous population growth, but we have to add that sex education in many places does not take place. As Turbak explain "In many areas, there is simply not enough food to feed the growing populations. Each day 40,000 children die from malnutrition and its related diseases. 150 million children in the world suffer from poor health due to food shortages". Also, overpopulation increases environmental problems. Pollution is an environmental problem whose magnitude is increased by overpopulation. As more people drive more cars, use more electricity, throw away more trash, and cut down more trees, the environmental problems we experience are greatly increased. If it is already known that we need to stop overpopulating the planet for several reasons then we need to be more consistent in the solutions.

I believe that world hunger is not an easy task to achieve, but it can be done. The same way every country get together whenever there is a world disaster or an earthqueake. For example with Haiti every powerfull country in the world got togheter an assisted Haiti with everything they could, the same thing can be done to eradicate hunger in the world. I also believe is because the goverment in this countries are very corrupted and usually the rich people get richer and the poor get even worse. I believe that the United Nations have to take control over that and oversee any type of corrupted goverment and take control and make sure that the country is run correctly. Only this measures will help to erradicate world hunger.

When I hear stories like this one it scares me to think about the future. I am born and raised in America so I do not know the feeling of going hungry. When I look around and see all the food we waste on a daily basis it makes me want to scream becuase I know that there are people straving and we are the "land of plenty". I am hoping that scientist and government from all over the world get together and come up with a solution that will revolutionize the way we process food. I can not imagine me or my children surviving off 1/9 of what we eat today.
Stories like this one, gives me the feeling that there should be a limit to how many children you can have in America, just like in China. Although I know that it will never happen, having less children is a starter point for decreasing the demand on food. Since weather is a factor in the shortage of food, maybe some type of solar cover can be created to cover the crops and still let in the right amount of sunlight and water.

I believe this is one of the most complicated issues (if not the most) humanity faces. People keep breeding and bringing more people into the world that probably would be as uneducated as their predecessors (in many cases not by choice but circumstances) we are exploiting all the resources Mother Land provides with little care. The main problem in my opinion lies in how corrupted the food industry in developed countries really is. In the United States alone, our government is run by lobbyists that are mainly CEOs and Chairman of food companies. These people are the same ones that run the FDA and are in charge of what we eat, how that food gets to us and everything in between. Cows are being fed grains against their nature (they eat grass). Those millions of tons of grains could feed entire populations all over the world. All the mass production processes we currently use, contaminate landfills and water that by default will kill more animals (don’t let me start with the mistreatment of animals and the poisons we are being given in our food). We are losing more than we are gaining but because those losses will be seen in the future the people in charge are turning the blind eye on the issue. It is all about the Benjamins (billions of them). Even if we get to the point in which we could produce all the food necessary to feed everyone in the world, rest assure it would not be distributed properly. In a world where money is the ruler of everything we are doomed to pay the consequences of our own ignorance. This is the sad reality.

The issue of over population in the world has been an ongoing problem for many years already, so why hasn’t there been any laws for child limitation yet? As the population increases more schools and houses have to be built on the actual little land that is left. Unfortunately people act like this is something new that’s going on, for years we have known that our food is diminishing yet are population is growing! In my opinion even though it may seem a bit radical we need to control the reproduction in every part of the world. All the nations in the world are to busy fighting against each other instead of uniting and looking for a possible solution that can save mankind. It is sad that people in Africa eat 9 times less then the people of the U.S yet children in the U.S and other countries are so uneducated about poorer countries and the risk we in our environment every time we pollute our water and air.

Education on birth control and the use of condoms can go a long way to help this problem, but by them selves they are not enough. China already has measures in place, such as requiring a license for procreation. One thing that really sickens me is the greed of man knows no bounds. How much money can you take with you in death? None, so if you believe in an after life, then only your knowledge and what good you have done in this world have any meaning in the long run. But man loves to live in the here and now and so those less fortunate must pay the price. It may be all those things like poverty, lack of education, lack of infrastructure and, poor or non-existent public health. But at least some of those can be helped outright by the “man” taking less for him self and leaving more for the needy.

Everything starts with education, the earlier we learn how hard it is to get the food thats in our very own plates the better, this will probably cause other professions to grow, before reading this my theory was that humans are here to destroy everything and also rebuild meaning that we damage the earth to make something else. many of us including myself do not see whats going on with earth itself and this will cause our future of limited resources. I do not think that one person can come up with a solution. Things will get worst before they get better and just like gas prices going up everything else will do the same. once were in this depression 100% thats when we will all see what the rest of the world is going through. people will stop reproducing on their own free will and for fresh food some might even make their own green house

This is definitely a serious topic and one worth brainstorming over. I truly believe that this problem we are experiencing is one that takes more than the occassional celebrity visit to Africa and 20 cents a day of donations. Our society as whole has the ability to contribute to this rising problem, and it can be something as small as saving the money you spend on fast food to cook meals at home and not throwing out left-overs. We Americans are pretty spoiled with food, and to be quite honest it would probably lower our obesity problem if we weren't so greedy. America has the ability to raise their own crops, but Americans don't want to do the work. We can definitely go in circles and raise more questions than answers but I think the solution is pretty simple. The more important question is whether or not you are willing to do something about it rather than being spoon fed.

There is so much poverty in the world, human beings dying of starvation. There is so much food being wasted every year by consumers that could actually feed those in other small countries that have nothing to eat. I use to work for a restaurant and everyday the restaurant had to throw away so much great food that could be used to feed the homeless. One option to better our society from people starving was to salvage more food that is deemed not good anymore by consumers and send it to people that really could enjoy it. Maybe this wouldn’t feed all the people in the world but it would sure be a start. So many people in this country take for granted the food they are given everyday it is a shame that they don’t see the kids in African that have little or nothing to eat. As stated in the article that our production of food is less than our population growth eventually there will not be enough food to feed everyone if that’s no the case now. Some how soon there has to be a way to increase the rate of food production because there is little to stop the rate that population is increasing.

In order to successfully balance food production demands and over population one must expands agriculture growth, by using mother nature as oppose to man made equipment set to harm our planet and health. The technological advances that aide to supply the overpopulation are being produced efficiecently but not effectively. Even though we do obtain our agriculture intake at higher levels as oppose to Sahara Africa the agriculture grown and produced contain chemical preservatives and enhacements that further harm our health. It is unfortunate that other countries have a shortage of agriculture it is my opinion that we must work to develope land fields of crops. These government land field shall be implemented to require countries and states develope certain amounts of land field use to grow and maintained agriculture with the least amount of enhancements yet produce efficiently and effectively.
