We are producing the same amount of food and the population keeps getting larger and larger but the same amount of food is being produced. First we need more jobs, more ideas to be able to produce more food. The price of food want to be increased yet the pay rate wants to be left the same. All these scientist, sociologist ect. Should be coming up with ideas and plans on how the WORLD could produce more agriculture, food ect. If nothing is done eventually the world is going to start coming to an end. How are ww going to eat? From were are we going to get food from? Who is going go make it? Also the world should start looking at the possibility to start producing more organic foods.

The world food and water situation makes me want to stop living. It makes me think that the contribution of my existence to the world is meaningless. What I mean is that whatever I do with my life, all my hopes and dreams don't matter because most of the world is dying of all the things that make my life easy and livable. My existence is only contributing to the abuse of this planet and people. I wonder if anyone else feels this way. Is anyone else disgusted by their existence in the grand scheme of all that is fucked up in the world? Its all so corrupt and sad that I'm ashamed of being a part and a product of humanity. This is what I think about when I am confronted with the sad reality of the state of the planet and humanity. And in the end I give up and realize there's nothing I can do and go on trying to fulfill whateverthefuck I'm supposed do with my life. IGNORANCE.

The world right now is in such a bad situation. The population on planet earth is increasing very rapidly yet the institutions that keep the populations alive and well are failing. Here in the US we have a failing education system. Chaos arises from ignorance, poverty, and bad education. In other countries around the world there are civil wars tearing countries apart. There are earthquakes demolishing countries. Cash-cow corporations try and cheat the system as much as possible to see some sort of profit. Nobody really cares about our food source. People are content with eating fast food and most people don't care where or how they get the food that they eat (possibly because a lack of education). We as humans love having the best of everything, which is why most countries have raped the land of all the natural resources that are available. These resources go from lumber, food, wool, fish, oil , ect. With the population of the planet earth increasing and the natural resources depleting, we are left with a dramatic problem here that politicians don't even bother to address. Sure we can plant more vegetables and try and humanely raise more cattle but there is no way to boost the population of all these animals with out pumping chemicals into them, which in the end will harm the human population. There is only so much earth can handle and we are pushing earth to the limits. Unless we plan on making everything out of corn products i do not know how we can possibly fix this epidemic.

It is very sad that the world has developed in many ways and that there are still countries who cannot get enough food to survive. There are many reasons why food prices tend to rise, for example, as mentioned in the article, the one problem we cannot control is the weather. In addition, politicians make this dilemma worse everyday. As long as their is more money entering in their pockets, the more they are going to influence causes that are not helping everyone as a whole. I think, that world population and food production should be just about the same level. The more humans there are, there should also be enough to produce food products. It is very sad that third world countries are not being helped out in order to become a better place for their citizens to live. Major countries like the U.S.A and Europe should help out these countries by giving ideas of how to improve their economy and maybe by creating employment for them.

Increased prices, decreased or limited production, monopoly of resources by the Western World. It does not seem as though these would be the most serious dangers facing mankind, and perhaps they are not. But the fact is that after all the wars are done, after all the countries have become one, and after all the races are either mixed or gone… there still wont be enough for those that survive, to continue doing so.

As for a solution, I'm not presumptuous enough to believe i may have the single answer to this problem or even a small part, yet it is naive to believe the breakthrough which allows us to increase food production or artificially support the underdeveloped world's abilities/resources will come all at once. All sides of this problem must look for the future uniformly, and not across some great elusive battlefield of lost profits.

This just might be the one war humanity cannot win. Most of us are forgetting that 99% of all species that have ever lived are now extinct. Human beings, like the dinosaurs, at some point most also become extinct. It is a natural process that hundreds of other species have gone through.
It is very depressing knowing that there are children who go to bed hungry and do not know where their next meal is going to come from. It is even more disheartening when you analyze how much Americans over consume and over indulge. We are the land of gluttons. Not only do we consume more than necessary for survival but we also throw away and waste perfectly edible food without even hesitating or thinking about how badly someone may need that loaf of bread we are tossing out.
If mankind is meant to become extinct, there really is nothing we can do about that, but we can at least attempt to alleviate the burdens people in Africa and in the other third world countries carry. We cannot just simply say "There's nothing I can do" in order to placate our guilt. We can be generous, and charitable. We can at least attempt to make someone else's existence a little easier. If everyone just participated in one small gesture, life would be a little more bearable. Please, please don not give up or become enthralled with pessimism or cyniciscm; we can ALL do something.

The issue of population and food supplies is a worldwide problem that effects the whole planet. In order to fix the problem it has to be tackled by everyone in a unified way or else we are not goig to be able to solve it. Realistically that is not goint to happen so we have to realise one day we will not be able to turn back the hands of time. All we can do now is try and to contain or manage the issue best as we can. With waether pattern also interupting foood supplies we have to start thinking now on how we are going to manage the problem in the future. I do not think we would be able to control the population so we are going to try and manage the other factors.Unfortunetly business or money making has become the most important factor in most industries across the world. I say that to say that most decisions or hardly many decisions are based on humanity and the agriculture industry is no different.
What is needed for the world leaders to come together and acknowledge that this is problem that needs to be addressed. Maybe not in our lifetime but some time after it will be aproblem that can not even be managed.

A solution for the food crisis and many other problems: Stop putting people in charge that sit in offices hundreds of miles away from "reality" and who don't live through any consequences for their actions.

Mother Earth was born billions of years ago & with time it has evolved into the amazing planet it is today. It is a shame that we take such beauty for granted thinking that all on it's own it will take care of itself, repair itself if damaged, etc. We take into little consideration that we humans are not the only creatures that live on this planet. If we don't take care of our resources, we won't have any left. There is worldwide organizartions, i relieve there should one organization that attends the needs of wildlife & others.

With a growing obesity epidemic here in America, I would like to join forces campaigning to eat right and stop over consumption, not just with what we ingest but with what we purchase too. Here in the states, we are stocked with food. Fresh produce is imported from in all over the world while tons of it goes to waste. How much food do we actually need? Do we even know? If we can reeducate ourselves on how to purchase our food we can hopefully make a big difference. We can start buying local organic products that will eliminate more pesticides seeping into our soil and lakes, not to mention our bodies. It will also reduce the cost and emissions from transporting foods. We can start frequenting farmers markets or signing up for food shares, this will cut down on packaging from grocery stores and also encourage us the to be creative with the available produce from this season. We can also start buying smaller amounts of food, just what we need, instead of huge amounts once a week or bimonthly. Shopping for less food a couple times a week will help us use what we have, while promoting eating fresh which can tie back to ending obesity. It is so daunting assessing this crisis on a global scale, but I think these are a couple good ideas to help push us in the right direction here in the US.

The way we take for granted commodities such as food and water today is depressing. We waste so much food and water on a daily basis, without really realizing that this food and water being wasted, can fill the empty stomachs of adults and children elsewhere. Not only should we use the agricultural resources we may have at a better advantage, we should also make many advances to offer these services elsewhere in our country where they are less fortunate. We need to develop a better system, period! Unfortunately, there are many out there who are less fortunate than you and I. Not everyone can go to their households and open a refrigerator to food, or a faucet to flowing clean water. This is where we need to step in. We need to develop better ideas for using our resources, natural resources, and offer these as a lending hand to other countries not so developed. America needs to show that yes, we are a superpower, and we need to use some of this power to help others. it is great that charities offer helping hands, but why can we as well?? just think that when you are going to sleep at night, with a full stomach...there are adults and children elsewhere who are not. This society needs to use its agricultural resources at a better and more efficient advantage. Everyone deserves a helping hand. So by us doing something about our own agricultural needs, we should address the needs of other countries, or aid them as well.

We are the only ones who are responsible for the deterioration of the Earth. The fact that lots of hectare cannot be used anymore by the agricultures is because of how much chemicals they have put on it. We are the ones who are responsible of the global warming and the ones who are destroying our own planet. On top of that the raising of the population is excessive, people that have little education or none at all have not the resource or the knowledge to use preservatives. If could only use more money to inform the little village we could start avoiding the over population, we could also use money to create plans that would help the farmers to feed the earth with natural sources, so it can be regenerated. This could be part of a starting fight against global warming or at least some methods against it.

It's sad to see people suffering from hunger and poverty....but what people need to realize is that every bad situation is a situation we can rise above. Food costs are rising, and people are running out of resources, and money, but it doesn't mean sit there and suffer. It's not up to philosophy to determine how to get ourselves out of the situations we put ourselves in. Places like sub-Sahara Africa, who's population rises daily, need to sit back and figure out a way to keep up with their rising demands. More people equals more food, make a plan to keep up with those demands. That's the freedom of being human, you can fix your problems and work toward meeting your necessary demands. The govenrment won't always protect you, which is why, we as humans need to find ways to bring ourselves out of the holes we are in. We can come together and makes plans for a better future. As the food demand rises, let us come up with more ways to create more jobs, boost the economy and feed those who are hungry. It sucks that food prices are rising, people can't afford to eat anymore so we suffer. How long will we let ourselves suffer? Why can't we lower food costs or raise wages? Making food affordable is possible and so is feeding the hungry. But until we allow ourselves to fully stand up and fix our problems, the hunger wil continue.
