I hold belief in a certain amount of things. One of my beliefs is that karma has a true existence in our perceived world. An action a person commits upon another will result in that very person receiving the same action some time later. In other words, you do positive actions towards people and in due time you will receive it in return from others. I care if I have justification and do care if my belief is true. I know it is true from personal experience. For instance, I have befriended certain individuals who were said to be heading in the wrong direction yet I gave them chances to build a foundation. During the time of befriending them, I acted in a positive manner and helped them through their rough times when they needed a good friend. One day coming home from school, my car broke down due some mechanical issues and I was alone in pushing it off the side of the road. Ten minutes later while on the phone with my father explaining, those friends who people spoke so badly about were, attaching my car to their truck and hauling my car and myself home. Evidence, that karma does happen. You dish and you will take it sooner or later.

I believe that hard work, great dedication and never giving up is the most certain way to reach great success. You must constantly be taking action to bring yourself towards your goals. For example you will not become ceo of a company or a politician or even get a college degree overnight. These accomplishments are achieved through years of hard work, sacrifice and perserverence. Now true perhaps, some may not have to work AS hard as others, but most certainly if you want to achieve something and you don't even try at all, you will fail, for you have done nothing, and not gone anywhere. With the more times you try and the more effort you put forth, the more you learn, and the closer you become to your end in mind. True this belief is not failsafe as it is possible to not accomplish a goal even after much hard work, but you will never know unless you try. I do care if I have a justification for this belief for if I did not I could not feel that I truely believe this belief. Also I do care if this belief is true because I take actions daily by it.

ok so i guess that was more of an explanation then a justification... so here's some examples to justify my belief.. For example I see plenty of people come and go at my place of employment because they don't work hard. The people who work hard and do their jobs are the people who are rewarded with privilidges and given the opportunity to make more money and progress. Another example, I know people that don't work and only party and live with their parents and don't go to school or go to school and don't work hard at it so they can not do well so they therefor do not progress either. Another example, I see my brother, who owns a bigtime marketing company out west, who for some time he had nothing and failed time and time again, and yet he did not give up and eventually he became successful and now his hard work has paid off. Of course his hard work must continue to maintain his success. I could go on but those are just a few examples that show me that hard work is needed in order for great success.

There are many instances where our judgment is put to the test. I am a firm believer that 9/11 was a conspiracy, by our government or some unknown hidden group other than the stereotypical Middle Eastern terrorists. I am neither a scientist nor a CIA employee, however I do believe that through the laws of gravity and physics no towers the size of the world trade center should have collapsed at the velocity and impact they did as a result of being struck by the two commercial airliners. Unfortunately, it may be too late to prove whether it is true or not, but I believe the victims and their families deserve to know the real truth.

Ok, so do you have definite proof? This would be an excellent forum to vent it. On the other hand, watch out, conspiracy theories are fertile ground for fallacious thinking.

I have read a few things on the theories of whether intelligence is genetic or does our environment influence it, or is it a combination of both. (Nature vs. nurture) I think that from my own personal experience I believe that intelligence is genetic. For example, my younger sister and I both grew up in the same household, same strict mom, same enforced rules. When I was 9 I was chosen to take a series of exams, after receiving the results the school informed my mother and I, that I was a gifted student. My younger sister also by age 9 was chosen to take the same form of tests but the results were different. She was identified as advanced but was not a gifted child because she lacks common sense, and problem solving skills, among a few other things. Our environment was the same but I am different than her. Our mother is not from here, Spanish is her primarily language so she couldn’t assist us with our homework. I had to figure it out on my own and I didn’t have any siblings that could help me. But school was easy for me and very often I would get bored until I was challenged more in middle school when they put me in gifted classes for all the major subjects. On the other hand, my sister struggles with school and even when I am there to help her out and explain things; it’s hard for her to grasp new concepts, and she is hard to coach. Our environment was the same and yet her intelligence differed from mine, only genetics distinct us from one another because even though we share the same mother we do not share the same father. Also, my two nephews differ from each other. My older nephew is outspoken, Mr. Personality but he dislikes school very much and he is in regular classes. My younger nephew is in fourth grade and has been placed in an advanced math class due to his FCAT scores. I didn’t even know advanced math classes existed in elementary school! My younger nephew gets nearly straight A’s all year round and the older one barely passed elementary school. Once again, more evidence that even though two students live in the same environment, (in both cases we share maternal parent ONLY), intellectually they are different compared to one another. That is why I believe that nature is the prominent reason for our own individual intelligence.

Those who believe that the 9/11 attack was a conspiracy are often criticized as liberal idealists.
There is much reasonable doubt when it comes to what truly happened.

Proof can be stated as evidence, however in the case of the 9/11 attack all evidence was ordered confidential and also the black boxes from both planes that hit the towers "magically disappeared" after being found. Shouldn't this raise reasonable doubt?

According to the chain of command, it was the Presidents duty to make decisions regarding the aftermath of the attack. However it was Dick Cheney, who ordered the disposal of the structural steel needed for investigation doesn't that make him suspicious. As a leader within our government, he should have been the first to request FEMA or other agencies permission for investigation.

We often allow repetition to console and even subconsciously hide truth from us. If you recall, what the media portrayed over and over was footage of the victims and those heroes attempting to save lives. But instead we were drilled with the pictures of terrorists. No answers to what truly happened, linked to evidence were once given.

There are many questions left unanswered, why did the military rehearse defensive responses similar to elements of 9/11. Why was tower 7 ordered for demolition, when it contained vital information for the CIA, FBI,possibly stating real evidenc?

I may be agreeing upon a fallacious theory, but I would like for my government to provide answers.
Based on the evidence and truth, not based on the uncertainty left behind their explanations.

For instances if I believe in my self, if I believe in my goals that I have in order to succeed. and I have plenty trust on what I do. but in the other hand there are people that may said that I would never succeed because they think that my goals are extremely high for me to be able to make it happen.
The only way to proof them that I will succeed on my goals no matter what. is when I make it happen. when I become successful and I show them the results of my perseverance and my dedication. I can tell by my own experiences since I have done so many things by my self and I already have proof many people facing them when they were pointing on me judging me
before even give a chance and the opportunity to show them that my belief that I will succeed is completely supported by my actions, by my interest to do my job, and the effort that I deposit in every single activity of my my life.
The statement that I will always use to explain this is that if many people can make it. I am NOT less capable then others . the lemma I always use is "If they can do it I can do it" "if is possible for them it is NOT impossible for me at all" it my be harder some times but the persistence and the dedication will take me there.... and I belief that one day I will succeed because I' m still there, keep trying and giving all my best. I already have tried so many techniques to be able to succeed. the only reason I am into college is because I trust that is another key for me to succeed and I trust that my college education will take me far. If I wouldn't have trust on my self, there would be no reason to be in college in the other hand if I would listen to other people instead of listen to my feelings at this point of my life I wouldn't be in college and I wouldn't be doing this homework and this is an action that proof me that my belief if completely truth.

I always believed in being a hard worker. If you’re a hard worker you can accomplish a lot in life.
For example, I've always given a hundred percent at school and have accomplished a lot and made my parents proud. But you’re not always awarded for being a hard worker and my past job is my example. I worked very hard every day and was never comment upon my work as an employee, never was a told that I did a good job, the only time I would ever be comment on would be on my mistakes. So therefore all of hard work was being looked upon and I decided to leave and go somewhere that it would be noticed.

I believe my mother loves me as much as she loves my sister. I believe so because I think maternal bonds are equally strong no matter the sex or the birth date of the baby. My mother will give up her life for me or my sister no matter the circumstances or the pain she has to endure because we are a part of her. We grew up on her womb for 9 months and afterwards we stayed by her side for more than 10 years. As I grew up I perceived an equal emotional affect from her and for me it was very important to feel it and to know it because it gave me security and personal strength. If this would have not been the case I am sure that the relationship I now have with my sister would be completely different. We know senses can trick us but what I feel regarding my mother’s love towards me is strong enough to clear up any thought that might try to contradict my position. As well as only having a feeling, there have been times in my life that my mother has sacrificed herself for me to achieve one of my goals as she has done on other instances to help my sister succed. Therefore, I believe her love towards us is balanced.

I believe in karma, that certainty that the universe is a balanced entity, and as such any deeds, actions or thoughts yield the same in return, almost to an exacting degree. For instance, a couple weeks ago I was walking to my car when I saw a young lady running to her car in the parking lot, it just so happened that she was parked right next to me. The moment she got into her car she broke down crying, I could see she was very distraught and could not help but be empathetic, for some reason I felt compelled to intervene. I then caught eye contact with her and we both smiled for a second, as I gestured her to roll her window down. I then invited her into my car where she informed me she had just lost her job, and had financial as well as relationship problems and wanted to commit vehicular suicide. I comforted her for a while and we went on to speak about life, problems and philosophy. We exchanged information and hugs and said our goodbyes with a very lasting impression of each other. Then last Sunday I found myself very stressed after breaking up with my girlfriend of two years, and decided to go have a couple drinks with my friends. As the hours rolled by they all left the bar and I found myself stuck there completely obliterated drunk at 5 am. As the bar closed I staggered to my car (due to no cabs for 30 min) and sat inside trying to sober up, then there was a knock on my window. As I looked up who else do I see but my new friend, as it turns out she remembered my tags and saw my car while driving home, for some reason she says she felt compelled to come over and check on me. Needless to say it was pretty obvious I was not okay, she then took my keys and reprimanded me for trying to drive, as she shoved me into her car and took me home. This and many other examples is my justification of the existence of karma. However this karma is a theory and has not yet been proven true by the scientific community, therefore it is not considered completely true. It matters not to me whether it is true because I have justification based on my life experience and this belief forces me to lead a nobler life. I would probably not believe in karma if I did not have this justification as I am a very logical and rational thinker.

A Different Truth…In order for me to believe in something, I have to experience it at least in some form or another, if possible. If circumstances don’t allow for this, then I will conduct research on the subject in order to familiarize myself with it. Essentially, I don’t believe in anything easily and I especially am wary of accepting truths blindly, particularly when they come from TV and the media. I also believe that nothing can be completely true since everything that we experience is through our senses, which means that we all have unique perceptions of reality. People see things differently and each person’s own version of the truth can serve to enrich my knowledge of the world. Every time that I discover something new through someone else’s viewpoint, I can question my beliefs and adapt them accordingly. Therefore, it is essential that we respect everyone’s beliefs, even if they run counter to your own, because they will enable you to grow and develop as a person.

Some people have their way to become successful without attending a higher education than high school but we are not all that lucky. I believe that in today’s society is very important to earn an educational degree not only for financial but for spiritual success as well. I state spiritual by stand for happiness and good conscious. Working in the corporate environment made me juggle around with my thoughts and became to ask myself if had chosen the right career or not. The reason was because I had experienced with my own eyes how companies would do whatever is in their power to gain what’s in their best interest as for the company interest or just that one personal interest no matter what the consequences would be to those that may affect or not. There was a time when an EVP laid off a whole department and contracted a new company who offered the same services for a lesser cost, smiled and complemented an employee to whom was fired right away because someone else didn’t like that particular employee, a manager almost had a heart attack supposedly due to stress whom by the way was released from the clinic and back to work same day and the EVP showed concern but then turned and demanded for this person to be demoted from the position, furthermore there were major employees cuts and salaries decreases. Well, most of these events took place under the circumstances that the company had a major deficit and needed to gain profit. After all, at that time some of us thought we were lucky to be working for that company although we had double the work to perform. My co-worker and I found out there was an internal fraud within the company and the CFO, EVP and the company’s financial auditors new about it and kept quite. I felt disappointed, sadness and anger. I wanted to resign but before doing so take other measures to end it. But my coworker tried to convince me that I wouldn’t be able to find another job that would pay the same salary nor I didn’t have the qualifications and most of all to think about the rest of the employees. Consequently, I resigned because it did not go with my morals as an individual and realized how far I had come. Years ago I had a job with a low income salary and as soon as I returned to school to complete my degree I was able to passed new job interviews and test required. I believe that everything comes to light meaning sooner or later the true would be known. Now I feel happy and without any resentment because I am committed and dedicated to continue a higher education.

The people there seen not to care about fact that they have no light or water most of the day, don't get me wrong people that have money are able to have it all day but the poor people have nothing, also there is no such thing as finacial Aid, parents have to pay for any type of schooling forget about welfare. I could go on and on,but I wont. I might be going to a place here in the USA and I hear people saying nonsense about this country but at the same token I see then taking advantanged of the opportunities the United States is giving them. yes I care if I have a justification for it? But at the same time it does not mean just because I perceived it to be true everyone else is. Also I do care if "X" is true, but again I must repeat, just because I care doesen't mean everybody cares. A good example about this would be Mellissa.s, Lanenaknowas88 and annonymous see how they all have different opinions I really wanted to said something in regards to that subject but it would take me a book to write from the things I've been through in a job situation. Conclusion: I love this country best of all I have freedom of speach!!!!!!!!!

As a believer, which humans naturally are, I hold countless beliefs, which play as a foundation for 99% of my ideas and actions. It goes without saying that having justifications for my beliefs are vital for my wellness and prosperity. Brought up in a single parent environment and exposed to many of the negative effects do to financial issues in the home has caused me to believe certain things that can insure happiness. The belief, which I feel are held by many, that lots of money can insure ones happiness and better loved ones lives is one that has fueled me at a very young age. As I climb the financial latter and flourish in my business, I start to realize that the previous problems have only been exchanged for other far worse problems. Realizing that my belief lies on false pretences I progress as a person to find the truth whichever way it may be. There is no doubt in my mind that having false beliefs will hinder and delay in reaching a desired destination.

Gay marriaged is a good example of love because when a person loves other it does not matter what sex does that person has. It is better to be with someone that really loves you instead of live with someone that you don't feel comfertable just to hide the appearance. For instance, love is the only way to live in armony whit yourself even though some cases as gay marriaged are not good looking in society. I do care about my belief because I am sure that love exists. It exixts from the moment that you see someone and you take care of him/her. Sweatshops violate the basic human writes of people who have no other choices for they may be children taken from their families or people who have no other way of money to support their families in isolated areas and they are put in slave like conditions. If just United States companies stopped sending their products to be made in sweatshops overseas they would help stimulate the economy. I do care if my belief is true and if I have justification for it, because in this time of recession, having products made under the correct and legal conditions it would create jobs for hundreds of people and different companies with in the United States.

Michael Evans once said “if you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything.” Your beliefs are basically your stand or your take, or your opinion on anything, x if you will. Beliefs are passed down from parent to child since the dawn of early man. Some beliefs have been brainwashed into us. However, that’s not to discard the fact that your beliefs make you, well you. For example an atheist believes that there is no God, no higher power. It is that person’s lack of belief in God that makes him an atheist. A Christian on the other hand believes that there most definitely is a God and that he sent his son Jesus to die for us. It’s that person’s belief in Christ that makes him a Christian.
Furthermore, most people have to believe in something. Or for that matter not believe in something, x. Many beliefs cannot be justified. For example, Christians argue that their proof of God is the bible. But, how do I know it’s a legitimate work send down from heaven from God himself for me to believe and live by? How do I know its not some creative piece of Literature?
In essence, some beliefs are just theories, for example the Big Bang. In my opinion, the science world collectively decided that was how the world was made. Is it a wonder why they teach it in schools? I myself don’t care for that theory. And I refuse to believe I came from monkeys. I like to think I was created for a special purpose. My belief, I cannot justify it. I believe it because I simply choose to, that’s the only justification. But aren’t most of our beliefs like that? Or have we been brainwashed to believe in x?

Abortion-
Abortion is an issue that evokes very strong feelings and judgments on all sides. Especially for those living in the United States facing unplanned pregnancies. Opinions on abortion vary for numerous reasons. Under certain circumstances, abortion may be the most appropriate or suitable action to take. Young women who find themselves pregnant, unprepared, and or at no fault for the conception shouldn't be penalized for being so. It is acceptable to have an abortion to stabilize and maintain a normal healthy lifestyle. It is naturally a woman's choice to have a baby or not, and if unplanned, she should also have the choice to keep it or to take action to change her situation. Abortion should remain legal because it should be the right of the persons involved whether to have an abortion or not.
In a situation where an unplanned pregnancy takes place, it is the choice of the parents in regards to the bringing up of the child. There are specific conditions like unconsensual sex that can also have an affect on the decisions of the mother and or father. One can have an abortion, keep the child and raise it, or give up the child for adoption; nevertheless it is the choice of the parents.

They didn’t have any mercy for their victims and we should have it for them why? Besides, all these criminals do in jail is eat, sleep, exercise and wait for their release date. And of course the everyday hardworking people have to pay to keep these people incarcerated. Many people oppose to the death penalty because they believe that everyone deserve a second chance and some people were wrongly prosecuted. Yes, I agree with them on that quote but that is why the government is working on improving the technology so that no one is wrongly convicted and sentence to the death penalty.

I think gay marriage is wrong and it should be banned in the nation. The definition of marriage is a union between a man and a woman. They shald mate and bear children so when they die, life will go on. The first two human beings God created were Adam and Eve - not Adam and Adam or Eve and Eve. Union between a man and another man or between a woman and another woman is unfounded and baseless. To me it's just disgusting and appaling. This type of lifestyle contradicts the law of nature. It should not be allowed. Men were not made for men. We have the same sex organs and we cannot reproduce. I can never imagine how can a man enjoy making out with another man. It makes hair on the back of my head stand up. It's an abomination before God. There is no room for it in our society

There are many reasons that support my belief that prostitution is wrong. I don't consider this because it attempts against people's physical and mental health. It is not only people's bodies who suffer, more than that, is the deterioration of their mind what kill the possibility of having a successful and happy life. Human beings that dedicate their lives to this profession are designated to be descriminated by our society. Unfortunately, prostitution is related with drugs and illegal businesses. There are other areas on people's life that get affected too. For example, let's say that Maria is prostitute and one day she realized that her life is not going to have a happy ending with that kind of life she is having. She wants to get a normal job, meet a man, and have babies. Do you think is going to be easy? Of course not! I believe that every person will always do what they want to do. No one can force you to perform an action if you do not want to do it. Everone will obey only their own will, and even ifyou sy you did not mean what you did, you can not say that you did not wish to do it at the time because you did do it. So unless there indeed are strings attached to our bodies being manipulated by someone else then you can not say you did not want to perform an action.
I believe that somehow a person can influence or even manipulate another into doing something yet the person who does it always has a choice whether to do it or to refuse to persom said action.

I really don't think that because you do something good that something good will be done to you in return. Karma is as real as Santa Claus; you may ask why, why do I say that. Well because of this reason, I do believe that some people are just out right bad people and nothing can change that, no matter how much you try or do for that person. Imagine someone who knows nothing else but hate someone who can not know what good is because they have never seen it. If you do something kind for that individual it does not mean that he or she will return that act, it means that I did something and that's it. Karma can not be, for if no one does anything for anyone and we still live and prosper what is that? What if no one stopped and you stayed out in the street with your car alone? Would that also be considered Karma? Or would you say, “that’s just bad Karma” I think either way you would say something to make your point sound correct.

The belief that euthanasia is morally inconsistent is one, which at first seems to be unquestionable. A relief caused by death in any way cannot conquer the intrinsic value of life. What if you look deeper into the value of life and what is offered from living instead of labeling life as value in itself alone? The consummation of life is found in human relationships and the prosperity of good between each other, therefore value is found in the people we help, touch, love, respect, not found as life itself. Life is the opportunity and the value is what we do with it. We can’t always know if anything we do is right, but when we have the best explanation to justify truth, believing that euthanasia is an act of value is not so hard to grasp.

People of all genders and age groups have faith in many different things. Some individuals beliefs can depend on personal encounters, experiences that family and friends have been through, and word of mouth. One of my beliefs is that inmates serving a life sentence should not be housed under the same roof as a short term inmate... There are several explanations for my belief... For example a person that is serving life is more likely to be more violent and possibly kill another inmate because they know there's no hope of ever getting out and living a joyful life. Can you imagine being incarcerated for the rest of your life? Now, an inmate that is only spending a couple of years in prison is going to want to stay out of trouble, because in the near future they'll be able to reunite with love ones... Basically short term inmates have a second chance to turn the tables around and better themselves as well as see freedom...(In order for me to believe in something it has to be based on true facts)The other night I was watching a show on t.v.(Lock Up), its a documentary where different inmates are interviewed and speak about the crimes they commited and how much time they were serving... There was an inmate by the name of "Jacob" that was serving life for 2nd degree murder, he said that he had been in prison for 7 years and already killed not 1 but 5 inmates..Anytime he felt moody or angry he would take out his frustration out on someone and try his best to hurt them, because he knew that life behind bars was the maximum penalty he could receive. Therefore I don't believe its fair...There should always be justification in what you believe in...If you don't have any proof or reasons why you feel a certain way, how can you expect to convince someone-else...

I am not gay or particularly passionate about the topic of gay marriage but I am passionate about letting people express themselves. Even though marriage is kind of a joke in this day and age, it should not be only be between a man and a woman. If you have love to give and create a bond with someone of the same sex, who are we to judge? There is more hunger for love in this world then hunger for food. If you find love with someone of the same sex why should one adhere to the conventional and repress one's feelings. It is a different time and age, we as human beings are evolving and we should embrace it. If you think it goes against the bible you need to think of this. We are all sinners but if God really is all loving then at the end of our lives he will judge us on more than on who we chose to sleep with. What is important is being a good person and giving and receiving love no matter how it presents itself and if everyone did this the world would be way better off.

Regarless of the fact that both countries have problems, in my opinion their problems are worst than ours, while we see how we are going to be able to pay the light for the next month; I should refrace that; some of us, which by the way the ones that are not able to pay are able to have assistance, were you could apply and they will help you, I'm just saying. While over there, they're worried about food, which by the way they have plenty of (platanos). If someone needs help with their light their is no type of help there, you are on your own. It just the fact that I've have never seem so many poor people in my life. When I was there for a month, which by the way I had a wonderful time. Not that I want to say that their is no poor people over here, but I belive that we are being knowledged here a lot better than in other countries. Anyways this subjectis is to broad for me even though I hate politics!!!!!!!!!

Karma is action performance concept of deed understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect.

I think that the fact, that he was doing good deeds towards people, was projecting a good positive energy that eventually help him out when perhaps was needed. But as of my understanding, actions come back to you, if and only if, the intension in doing them does not involve expecting something in return, which means that if we decided to do something we should do it, out of the goodness and kindness of our soul to somehow emphasize our beliefs in mankind.

I personally think that it's been foreshadowed that what comes around goes around.

Ok, so we all know nothing in life is absolute. This is the main reason why, as members of society, we can never agree on hot topics such as the ones mentioned by our professor. Now, I am not saying this is a bad thing; discussion of different points of views it is always healthy, and although I do have to say that it angers me when certain individuals stick to their beliefs and blind themselves from certain realities, I enjoy a discussing such controversial topics.
Society is not based on a per individual basis. There are certain rules and standards we must follow to become part of the world we live in. Our ancestors declared this concept: A man and a woman must marry before any type of intimate contact with each other, the man must provide for the woman while the woman procreates. This is the blue print of men and women relationships and anyone who deviates from this idea is frowned upon. The idea of same sex relationships was not even thought of (or at least not spoken of). How does this fit into relationship dynamics? Well for some people, it just doesn’t and this is why same sex marriage in such a huge controversy.
We are programmed to live in a heterosexual society and we refuse to accept this form of relationship even when we know it exists!!!
Most of us are in favor of equal rights for homosexuals yet we cannot accept gay marriage. This is a bit contradictory when one comes to think of it and a lot of this has to do with stereotypes. There is a big misconception that gays are promiscuous individuals incapable of leading a healthy long term relationship. Homosexuality is not just about sex, it is also about mutual attraction, love and YES, also about sex JUST AS in heterosexual couples.
There are many reasons why society opposes gay marriage but I have to say that the argument of: “Gay relationships are immoral and violate the sacred institution of marriage.” is my favorite one. Let’s go back to the Bill of Rights. Freedom OF Religion implies freedom FROM religion. Religion has no place in law therefore it would be unconstitutional to negate gay couples their right to marry because the bible reads differently. If this is your excuse for opposing gay marriage, than homosexuals religious freedom is being infringed upon and this is enough grounds to challenge this argument.
I could go on and on, but I’m over my 200 word quota. (By the way, I am not gay, I just believe in equality)

I strongly believe in euthanasia. I have experienced first hand, how difficult end-of-life care could be, for the patient, the family and the caregiver. I worked as a unit secretary for a national hospice provider in one of our local hospitals for two years. During this time I have seen more death than anyone really should. I have seen people come in coherent, active and accepting of their condition and I have seen them slowly deteriorate, to a shell with out a trace of the person they used to be. I have seen patients of all ages suffer from pain, discomfort, anguish, anger and fright, lingering on; I have seen families suffer, argue, demand and altogether lose it. I have seen the pain and suffering of the caregivers, these wonderful people, ‘angels’ who care for their patients’ day in day out. It is a part of life, death. Hospice care provides dignity and quality of life at the end of life; and a lot of the pain that I have seen and experienced cannot, in any way be diminished by euthanasia, but it can allow one, us, if it is our wish, to express “I have had enough, I am ready to die. Now.” This is a touchy subject for me, I can go on and on and turn this into a thousand word essay; I hope that you the reader can see my point. I must also mention that one is never too young to fill out a Living Will, it will help your loved ones make the right decisions when you can not.

"Is there really a GOD". It's a basic statement that excites and enrages most people. When things are going according to plan in our lives most of us say “thank you God”, but when things start going downhill most of our response might be “if there is a God he wouldn’t let this happen to me”. I am not a Christian, but I do believe there is a God. I set my alarm clock before I go to sleep but I don’t think it’s the clock that wakes me in the morning. I’ve been in some situations before where the only person I could call on was God. I just can’t imagine thinking that there is no God. I have nothing against Atheism, but I think only a fool would say “there is no God”. It’s not by chance we are here, there had to be a God who created us. I agree the world is messed so some people might say “If there is God why doesn’t he do something”. No matter what people might say I do believe there is a God.Jimmy Prince

Juan Pablo Bertone, Global warming.
I am 33 years old and I think that I have not much experience in life. However, I can see how we are maniplated sometimes for important essues like Global warming. Even it is a matter that require global attention, I think that behind all this problem that we have to solve, one more time there are big loby interests that push that every day we hear something about this matter. These interests are from the american goberment. Scintifics of NASA have created a sofisticate sistem machine that produces the quimical material that is decresing every day in our atmosphere that protect us of the consequenses of global warming. They say that they have all ready the tecnology, but they need to find the way to produce this gasses in trillions of tonks in order to cover the whole atmosphere with this new quimical material. This would be a great solution for this matter that causes several consequenses on our life.My point is that one more time U.S Goverment created necesities and at the same time it creates the solution for it in order to keep control of important global essuis. They have a plan that if this tecnology advance can be possible, they want to created like a gloval tax to U.S Goverment in order to get the advantages of have the Gloval Warming problems solved. In my opinion, this is another psicilogical tecnique of created needs in our society in order to stay forced to pay this gloval tax in order to have more control and power over the world.I not say that this is a great solution for this problem, but why not the U.S goverment take care about the poor people in Africa, or the violation of human rights in many countries, etc. May be, they can't get any advantages of them yet.

I believe that good work only pays off in the afterlife. I am justified to believe this because time and time again I find myslef witnessing the less respectable people at work getting ahead at their company of job. As opposed to someone who consistently shows perfect work related habits. for example, at my job. A small group of men, (i work in a female predominent environment) get looked down upon because we are constatnly giving postive feedback for our work. As opposed to the women who are constantly seen as troublemakers by the higher management. Even though the case may sound favorable to the small portion of men. The negative actions of the others are responded with conclusions that hurt the entirety of the group instead of negatively affecting the less than favorable workers.

I really don't think that because you do something good that something good will be done to you in return. Karma is as real as Santa Claus; you may ask why, why do I say that. Well because of this reason, I do believe that some people are just out right bad people and nothing can change that, no matter how much you try or do for that person.

What's karma? Explain it to me.

Jimmi: I was hoping we left God alone at least for now.

I am justified to believe this because time and time again I find myslef witnessing the less respectable people at work getting ahead at their company of job. As opposed to someone who consistently shows perfect work related habits. for example, at my job.

Alejandro: I follow you, but the fact that this is your personal experience doesn't make it universal. May be it will change, maybe you find another job where they praise responsibility and hard work.

Yamile and Christini, good points.

(I wasn't sure if we had to repost our comments following your new topic suggestions, so i did anyway)

I believe that global warming is the most serious issue at hand to mankind. My reason for this belief is that the severity of this problem has been justified by every part of the scientific community to date. Every day we see the effects of this climate change as entire species become extinct and sea levels rise. This is a well known fact and is true. However I believe we humans don't actually expand our minds to concept that were aren't the "alpha species" we thought. Scientists have been able to retrace in the earths history the various points in time when the earth had warmed and cooled much more than we expect or is happening now, with the most notable being the ice age. What we as humans dont notice is that every time this happened there were mass extinctions of species and it continues to this day. We fail to see that we are as every other species on earth and therefore are liable to become extinct just as easily as them. The justification of this issue is important to me because without it, I would not believe in it. It is also the justification that proves the issue true to begin with and its truthfulness is also important to me.

Marijuana use has increased through our prohibition, and the legalization would free up billions of wasted dollars. Prohibition is counterproductive a blow to our personal freedom-- (and our public policies should reflect this reality, not deny it.)

One [unintended] effect of Marijuana prohibition is that Marijuana is very popular in High Schools. Why, you ask? Because it is available. You don’t have to be 21 to buy Marijuana-- Marijuana dealers don’t care how old you are as long as you have money. It is actually easier for many high school students to obtain Marijuana than it is for them to obtain alcohol, because alcohol is legal and therefore regulated to keep it away from kids. If our goal is to reduce drug consumption, then we should focus on open and honest programs to educate youth, regulation to keep drugs away from kids, and treatment programs for people with drug problems. But the current prohibition scheme does not allow such reasonable approaches to marijuana; instead we are stuck with dumb DARE police officers spreading lies about drugs in schools, and policies that result in jail time rather than treatment for people with drug problems. We tried prohibition with alcohol, and that failed miserably. We should be able to learn our lesson and stop repeating the same mistake.

The Economic Crisis in America

The United States of America is experiencing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930's. I identify greed and financial irresponsibility as the mayor causes for this crisis. As a financial professional working for a mayor bank, I have been exposed to the greed Wall Street is so much critiqued for these days, but also to the financial irresponsibility from ordinary individuals like you and me. When debating the causes of this crisis, the latter is often forgotten.

Let me describe the first cause. The greedy interest in Wall Street is a major component of the crisis we are all living in America. Financial institutions are not necessarily looking for the best interest of the consumer, but for the best return for their shareholders. I never understood why I was not required by my employer to request income verification from an individual requesting a mortgage or any other loan. The bottom line is that the bank wanted to book loans at whatever cost. Again, not seeking the best interest of the consumer, but rather how much revenue would hit the balance sheet's bottom line. This example is greed at its best.

My next point maybe somewhat controversial, but in my opinion, very relevant to what's going on now days. As an individual that I am, I know when I can afford something and when I can't. The fact that I know when I cannot afford something does not stop me from buying it anyway. This is called financial irresponsibility. Often as I drove through different neighborhoods, I noticed police cruisers parked at half-a-million dollar homes. Judging from the fact that a police officer’s average salary is about forty thousand dollars a year, I knew for a fact that this was the case of financial irresponsibility. Nobody needs a finance degree to figure this out.
Although Wall Street greed played the biggest role in the financial crisis we are suffering in this country, let’s not lose perspective and assign fault to those people that did not stopped and said “NO, I CANNOT AFFORD THIS HOUSE”.

In this 21st century it amazes how many people in the United States do not believe in the theory of evolution. It is a well known fact that the United States is the most religious country among the developed western nations. Majority of these religious people do not believe in the theory of evolution. I firmly believe in it as science has proven it to be a fact. As Darwin has scientifically proven that people have evolved over times, yet many people still believe in the myth or I should say “irrational, illogical, unrealistic” stories of Adam and Eve. To prove that this theory holds the truth, we need to look no further than the most horrifying untreatable disease of this century – Cancer. The reason we don’t have a cure for cancer is that cancer cell mutate which makes it difficult for any medicine to work (Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest).

I believe smoking marijuana is wrong and should be outlawed in America. Marijuana is the most widely used illicit drug in this country and is readily available to children. Although people believe that the smoking pot has no negative effect but the use of it has adverse health, safety, social, academic, economic, and behavior consequences; and because of that children are the most vulnerable to its damaging effects. I know some people believe that the use of marijuana is a free decision for everyone as it brings only an individual to a physical danger. Other people realize which advantages and disadvantages the use of drugs brings and they decided with their free will for the advantages. However those people who think like that are a danger for our children. It’s true that they make money with it and have a living but those people corrupt our population by influenced our kids. Kids nowadays go to school and skip classes to smoke at every corner. Later on, they get influenced by those people even more and want to be a dealer which brings a lot of problems in our society. Drugs are related to thefts, robbery and even murder. If it is legal to smoke marijuana and do drug, it will make a big impact in our community. In this case, we must acknowledge that the prohibition of marijuana is a way to say human life and make this world safer.

As years go by, I believe more and more that good actions are not the result of us expecting good things in return or believing in things like Karma or the Bible, but instead of our true nature and what makes us happy. I will not lie by saying that all I do is for the good of others or that I’m not in favor of our capitalist system, since that is what at the end of the day pays my bills and allows me to have the life style that I like. I see my life as a work in progress and every day I strive to give more and more to others just for the pleasure of making a difference in another person’s life. However, that has not been the case all my life, since it was a shocking experience that changed it all a few years back.

I grew up in a beautiful family where my mother was very dedicated to her family, God and other people without ever asking for anything back. One day 5 years ago she was diagnosed with cancer and died a year later. While she was going trough this process, I lost a lot of my faith in God and also in the idea that if you do good to others only good things will happen to you in return. After the fatal event, I wondered why my mother, the person who dedicated her whole life to God, others and the community was going through so much pain and agony?

One day she noticed the change in my behavior and asked me what was going on. I told her how I was not able to understand what was happening to her, how the ideas of Karma, or so many of the stories in the Bible and my own believes were not enough to explain why the nicest person I have known was suffering so much. Why was such fatality not happening to a terrorist or to a serial killer? She looked me straight in the eye and replied “you should be ashamed of yourself; you think that I did all those deeds throughout my life because I was expecting something in return? No! I did them because it made me happy and every action came from my heart. Deep inside I knew it was the right thing to do. If you are going to do good things because you are afraid of Karma or because you expect great things in return, you will only be disappointed in the future.”

As I reflected on my mother’s words, I realized that even if I take into account the great amount of pain she went through while she was dying, the amount of joy and happiness that she received as a result of her dedication to others was her desired satisfaction. Making others feel good was what really made her happy and it was the reason that made it all worthwhile. I know that when she died, she was truly happy and was not disappointed in God or in life. That is how I want to die, that is why I have decided to dedicate as much time as I can to do as much good possible. Doing good make me happy and I know that no matter what, in the end I will never be disappointed.
