I wanted to comment in the religious section above but ill post here since I cant there.
An analysis of more than 350,000 interviews conducted by Gallup in 2008 finds Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Arkansas to be the most religious states in the nation. Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts are the least religious states.
Ironically enough they are some of the poorest and also at the top for teen pregnacy and are at or near the bottom in education and test scores...
What these numbers suggest is that the smartest and most educated, most sexually responsible and wealthiest among us are the least religious and the poorest, least sexually responsible, dumbest and least educated are the most religious.
Carrying it a little further, the southern states are Republican and the Northern states Democratic. Southerners are mostly convinced that God is a Republican. Northerners don't much care.
During the dark ages the church pretty much ruled Europe. Coincidence?
