Many people look down on prostitution and degrade those who are forced into this way of life. When one does something unwillingly and if we use some of the terms from previous classes like first order and second order desire, one can argue that in most cases the prostitute is not acting on his or her own desires as well as volitions; therefore his or her actions are not free. If their actions are not free then they cannot be held accountable for these actions they are forced to carry out. If they should not be held accountable then why do people continue to slander and denounce this collection of victims? Because that is what they are, they are simply victims. Victims that are stood before a firing squad stripped of their dignity and self-worth while simultaneously their humanity is cruelly wrenched from their broken and battered hands. These dehumanized targets are made to feel tainted and worthless because of a lack and unwillingness to understand their plight and condition.

I had to do a presentation on this topic once. The information I found, was horrific. This is a subject that many people do not realize that is happening everyday around us. It is very sad that children, especially little girls, are being sold to other people for money. In addition, in some countries, where the parents cannot afford to maintain another child, they just sell them for the money. There are a lot of movies that are related to this topic. These kids and women are being forced to have sex and are being abused in many different ways. The people who own them, drug them to numb their pain and to have them controlled, they also pay them little or no money and are constantly verbally and physically abusing them. The world needs to do something about this matter that is destroying many people. These kids and women are suffering and we are not doing anything about it. There are some institutions that offer help to these people in order to help them get over the drug addiction, to psychologically help them move over the horrible experiences that they have had to go through. We should definitely try to start for this topic to become one of the main concerns in every nation of this world.

Even reading this vignette about prostitution is traumatizing. The quote that was included about the woman, who had constantly been abused and assaulted, was extremely shocking and alarming. The lives these women leader are awful and no person on this planet should be subjugated to that kind of cruelty and malice. There is a lot of prejudice associated with prostituion in it's various forms. But the real villains in this story are the pimps and traffickers, who only view women as merchandize and commodities.
They see no other way to prosper than to take advantage of the women around them. It's very hard to even conceive that people are treated in this manner. Even if a women, or a child as is the case sometimes, is able to escape the horrid life of the sex industry, they will carry physiologicalscars for the rest of their lives. They will have low self-esteem and virtually no confidence and be very maladroit people, who can't function in society. Like Stephanie said, these people lose all self-worthand probably become very despondent, if not suicidal.

I'm sure more than half the population would agree that prostitution is completely wrong no matter what's the situation. I think that no person should look towards prostitution even as the last exit. There are so many other options and that should not be one of them. I understand that some are 'kidnapped' and lied to and that's how they are then turned into prostitutes. Those criminals have to be found and punished. They are nobody to take other persons innocence. Its sad to think that their is evil people that have only interest for money. I get the feeling that these people have been beaten and have suffered so much that they don't see an exit and decide to stay doing that.

The subject of prostitution is a hard one. The realization of what actually goes on in a prostitute’s life is horrific, just the few statistics were hard to read. The subject of human trafficking seems so broad I have decided to focus on prostitution here in the US. I have heard some state the argument that prostitution should be legalized, so the government can control the industry. This may make this dangerous occupation safer for many young women, but what has happened in these girls lives that makes them think this is their only option? Or more disturbing a pleasurable one? This is not a dream of any little girl. Not one reason can be to blame but many of these women have suffered from sexual abuse, are struggling with addiction, or are completely impoverished. Leading them down this risky path. With the great many qualities women possess why would selling one’s body be a viable choice? Maybe if women were not only synonymous with beauty but with intelligence and strength it would change the mindset some men have about us, as well as ourselves.

Many young women today and in past history uses prostitution as a means of financial income. They may have a problem with finding a job, may have low self estiem.
They may believe that the only way out of this problem is the means of prostitution. Whats even worse than prostitution is human trafficing. Many people take advantage
of these young, lost, confused women and children and make a profit out of it. Instead of trying to help these women, they treat these women as property and as a tool.
Women who are involved in prostitution have nowhere else to turn, because they believe that there's no one out there who cares about them, and they feel like they have no body
to turn to, and they feel like that this is there only means of survival in the world they live in. I personally believe that the pimps who run the operation if ever caught, that
the penalty for being caught is life in prison, or even some cases, the death penalty.

The thought of trafficking is horrific to me and the horror stories i have heard are heatbreaking. It is crazy to me how this is still existing and going on in the world today, and not only is nothing really being done about, the victims of this are only getting younger and more helpless. I believe when forced to have sex in the trafficking industry or prostitution, immense psychological damage occurs that unfortunately cant ever be healed or reversed. The thought of someone forcing you to commit such acts is truly sickening. One never really knows why some may resort to the life of prostitution or becoming a stripper, but no matter how hard times may get one should never demean themselves at the hands of others. There is no greater form than this in the discussion of being treated as a means to an end. I can only hope one day something moe is done to combat this sex slavery, and more options are presented to many alike.

All my life I have always been very oblivious on the topic of human trafficking, more specifically prostitution. Granted I know what both are and what they consist of but I sometimes fail to recognize that it is happening, today, all around us. In my opinion it is the most horrific and sad experience that one can go through. It degrades human beings of all sorts making them feel as if they are non-living creatures. Especially women with prostitution; it is their “duty” to be disrespected, used and mistreated, but at the end of the day they have no choice but to do it if they want to survive the real world. It is very difficult once someone has gone into that “business” because once you are sucked in there, there is a high chance that there will be no turning back. Just like an addiction to drugs or any other evil thing…it is extremely hard to stop; especially if one has horrible people encouraging them or forcing them to continue on with that type of lifestyle. Human trafficking is completely and utterly inhumane and should not be allowed for any person to get into.

Like many problems we face today prostitution has been swept under the carpet. This like many others however is a definite problem which needs to be addressed head on and dealt with. Sadly its not even discussed for the most part. Is it shame that is keeping us from addressing this issue? Are we unaware or its presence? Or perhaps the common belief amongst people is that it doesn't exist. That it in fact is just a thing of the movies. I for one would like to see some more government action on this subject. I'm not even talking about anything huge here I am just suggesting that it would be nice to move away form the common 15 or 20 common political election campaign topics and focus on some of the other issues that are being faced in the world today. I mean its nice to hear what electees plan to do about things like the US War in Iraq, the health bill, education etc.. but i mean come on they always talk about the same things and.. wait for it.. NOTHING EVER HAPPENS. So with that being said how about they move away from subjects that they clearly cant do anything about and move onto less complex issues which they might actually be able to lend a helping hand with. (I am aware that progress has been made in some of these topics however my point is that the people always tend to get about 1/5th of what was "promised")

Prostitution, in some ways, can have a positive twist. In America as well as many other countries there are brothels. The women are not forced to work there. Also, they are tested for STDs and avoid these as best as they can. The women do it for the pay and the customers come to have a nice time. The selling of humans is evil. Kidnapping females and selling them is not even fair, men are physically stronger than woman and can force them to do things. If the female does not give consent for being sold for sex then I feel like there is a big problem.

Why do we still struggle with these dreadful issues in the Twenty-First Century?
When a lot of people think that Human Beings are improving I believe that it is partly wrong. Yes, governments have imposed new rules and laws (against slavery or working children for example) and the ethics has evolved thanks to philosophers.
Unfortunately today these things are still going on and I am pretty sure that there will always be people abusing others. What sounds revolting to me is that a lot of people think that it only happens in the developing poor countries.
Well, a lot of documentaries and studies show that women (and men) prostitute themselves. For example, I know a guy who decided to work in a fancy gay bar because he was getting money easily (you imagine how…). Several of my friends only want to date rich men. I consider this as prostitution. Actually, who has NEVER used his/her physical “benefits” to get what she or he wants?? But prostitution is a job and if some people want to do it I do not mind (to a certain extend of course). After all, they sell pleasure. Plus, it is the oldest job in the world.
Seriously, prostitution is everywhere. In Europe for example, each time there is a soccer World Cup, the medias say that the number of human traffic between Easter and Western Europe grows. But, I have seen so many prostitutes even in the wealthiest neighbourhoods in France (and they are not all from Africa or Eastern Europe as some people might think).
Regarding “forced prostitution”, according to existentialism there is not such a thing. However some factors push people to do things they do not want to do. According to the post, this is a phallocentric world where women are easy preys and are much merely treated as a mean to an end than men. A large number of them are stuck in this situation (for fear, need, ignorance…).
But what can we do? Is chasing and killing the responsible ones a solution? Is ending evil with evil a solution? I doubt it.
Seeing these examples of human traffics hurt me but also allow me to recall how lucky I am not to consider even a minute of doing such a thing.

Prostitution is a very controversial subject because it involves many wrong doings. Among these are included the high increase in probability to: contract the AIDS virus, rape, abuse, and much more. However, it also means a way of earning their living for many women. The fact that it is not correctly enforced provides a viable way to earn money for women without any other resources. It is consequent of the flaws of our political and economical systems which are not sustainable for the entire society. But in order to develop better systems we might as well wait for many years, maybe centuries. Ultimately, we need a revolution not on basis of war but on ourselves that evokes change and progression against the evil existing in this world.
