How to construct your next 150-word comment

1. Offer a reasoned argument correctly. Actually if you state the reason for your arguments correctly there is no wrong answer.
2. Keep it simple. Less is more.
3. If you can, incorporate some independent thoughts into your answer.
4. Discuss your answer to yourself.
5. Don’t write compulsively.
6. Write a draft on WP and correct misspellings and any errors in logic. Write clearly, in proper English. Avoid slang and broken phrases.

Here is an example of a short paper. And here is another. Obviously you are not writing a paper, but a 150 word comment can be considered a sort of mini-paper.

Here are some pointers:

You can state a position by defining it. For example: “Libertarians believe that…” of if talking about a person: “Sartre suggests that so-and-so.”

If you want to suggest a hypothetical situation of your own, go like this: “Suppose that,” or “Imagine so-and-so,” or “Just for the sake of argument…”

Phrase your views properly: “I believe that” or “I suppose,” or any other similar form.

Whenever you compare, you can use, “on the other hand, Locke holds that memories are…”
For conclusion, use: “Therefore”, “As a result,” “Thus,” “In conclusion,” etc.

When I was 10 or 11 I was told what was really in most hotdogs that I ate, basically the parts they throw away from the animal such as lower legs including pieces of bone, tail, cartilage and the rest of the waste meat. It never bothered me at all because I had food to eat, so I personally don’t care whether the animal is treated properly or dies horribly as it lived. The fact that there is too many people and food has to be produced fast and cheap enough to feed us all, to me is the real problem. Then there is the problem of not enough room for most free ranged farms anyway. They destroy wildlife habitats to create more farm land not caring about the consequences to the environment. Therefore until we can control our explosive population growth or find a more efficient food supply we will not be able to help insure animal rights.

True, it's all about the eaters.

Peter Singer, often called the father of animal libertarianism argues that “ the interests of animals should be considered because of their ability to feel pain and that the idea of weather animals have rights, is not necessary” . Consider this, Americans consumed 9 billion chickens last year, this of course requires mega farms to process chickens. What is more astonishing is the abnormal growth rate these chickens experience often fed genetically modified corn and soy protein feed. I have boycotted KFC, because it is the one large food chain that has denounced PETAS beliefs calling its campaign “nothing short of corporate terrorism”. Even larger fast food chain companies such as Burger King favor suppliers who use the controlled atmosphere method to kill their chickens. That is use argon and nitrogen to painlessly kill their chickens. That is something our slaughterhouses refuse to consider. I do not ask to change the way we eat, but to demand a more humane death for our food.

Miguel, I somewhat agree to your view towards animal rights. We definately should consider alternatives, however it has become an environmental crisis as much as a neglect towards our human responsibilty. It is a problem we are facing now, and we need to react against those slaughterhouse and demand a change. I admit population has reached an ultimate high, and it is difficult to keep up with our food supply. Consider this, in Europe the main diet consists on fish, grains, and legumes. We need to educate ourselves and change the way we eat. This however does not excuse us, from impacting our current inhumane treatment towards food.
