It was given to him too early but I hope he respects the prize and earns it. Now more than ever, he should play the neutral US president who is after peace, solving problems and not seeking wars, and creating problems as his predecessor has done. Otherwise, not only the prize will loose its legitimacy, it will be the best tool for the right-wing neocons.

This is a great article on HuffPost by Michael Moore.

Agree. It's a good article. However, let's not pretend that the committee doesn't have a relevant criteria. They made it very explicit.

The fact that Obama has not earn the prize yet, to me, makes the prize seem like a joke. Just because we want to encourage him to do better doesn't mean we should reward him early on. The prize holds value only after a great deed was done, to give it in hopes of a great deed seems ridiculous.

Angie, what do you mean exactly? That he doesn't deserve it? In the last 9 months, you still don't see his foreign policy as a substantial change from his predecessor?

I belive in Obama, yes he may have flaws but we all have them (and anything is better than Bush). He may not have fully earned this prize yet but if there is one person in this world that we need to encourage in any possible way to seek peace is him. So if you ask me, anything that can be done to point him more towards seeking world peace its good.

I strongly believe that Mr. Obama the President of the USA, is a different man from Mr. G.W. Bush.
The entire world has sensed this already, and many small and big countries have been encouraged from his attitude at the White House, in beginning a new era for diplomacy.
Still, this is not enough. The war in Iraq and Afganistan is there. Troups are still there, no due dates for withdrawing soldiers, more than that Mr. Obama did not exclude (legitim) a Military action against Iran if they keep working on nuclear...
Almost nothing has been done about the Global Warming.
The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are still the same country of a year ago; nothing has changed, policies in Wall Street are the same; EDUCATION is more expensive today than last here( i paid 8% more, at UM 15%), so this is not and encouragement for young people.
Jobs have not been created,( i don't blame the President, this is a cause of the economic cycle); health care reform: not yet achieved. Olympic games :a complete failure. Middle East process of peace: at the same point from 100 yrs now. Cuba's matter: just an opening to negotiations; never started.
Now: Nobel Prize.
Nobel Prize is a price that people in Economy, Fisic, Medicin, Research.. gain after important achivements and after spending an entire life working for only one porpouse.
I really apologize, but i firmly not share this achivement from Mr. Obama and i reject event to congratulate him. This man doesn't need any encouragements, he needs to have the goods to be where he is, and he has them. So insted of rewarding him with not yet deserved prizes, the world should focus on make new policies.
Many men have promised the moon to their people, he might be just one of them. And in the future he will not loose his Noble Prize Title if he does not achive anything. So let's not allow to politic to destroy the fame of this Prize.
Mr. Obama is still not: Nelson Mandel; Yasser Arafat, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr, Theodore Roosevelt...
Because Mr. Obama is a very, very smart guys, I believe that even him feels a little shame of having his name close to these guys!!

Matteo: You don't have to apologize to nobody for holding your views or expressing them in this class. Thanks.

Let's not make assumptions yes yet. The president is after all only a man. Is not just him who has to work on what it's important in this country. He deserves his award because he has proven to be down to earth in my eyes.I may not follow politics as much as I should, and one reason is because there is always something that needs to be fix or put away or destroy and now we espect this one man to come and do WHAT? He is not GOD. Instead of waiting for solutions we need to make solutions ourselves. But that is just my opinion as a woman.

All nobel peace prize things aside, i heard Obama's speak in person in the city the other day and I just have to say that he blow my mind! Has a speaker he is the right man to have in office. He made the slogon "Grab a mop" into the perfect motivation line. However i still don't think he was ready to be given the nobel peace prize just yet.
