"Love must be reinvented, that much is clear" - Arthur Rimbaud

The topic of love is an abtract subject with as much immaterial substance as the mind. First we must define love in order to ascertain what is it. Then, we must try to rebuke or reaffirm love with empirical evidence or logic.

Love...I can not give a definite universal definition. The idea of love is universal, distinct, and individual. In the posted article we are presented with notions of love in a capitalist western idividualist society of America. I am sure there are other forms of love that may be completely different from an american perspective.

Well what is love?...I say love is both a sentiment and mental condition whereby one develops a interdependent attachment to someone and is recipricoal. A one sided love is lust or obession -at least in my opinion-.

Okay, but isn't this definition a vague? Yes! it is but only so that it may be demonstrated the braod nature of love in American society. For instance in American culture there is : Brotherly love, Intimate love, familial love, camaderie, love of state, material love, and etc.

So how is love measured or proven then? We can prove love exists via the observation and research. As bizarre as this sounds- we can use empiricism to prove love exists in various forms. The easiest ways would be through the study of human physiology, psychology, and societal development. (Field work as in anthropology works too).

Due to the abstract nature of this topic I would like correspondence to justify and further explain my easoning on love.

Love is something very complex. Yet many scientists tried to define it, nobody was ever able to give a perfect definition of this word so often used. Nevertheless, some people were able to come up with some very interesting theories. For Hatfield, “passionate love arises when cultural expectations encourage falling in love”. This simple quote questions everything we learned since our early age. Is love a natural chemistry between two human beings, or only the result of an western education ? I feel that this question is the most important of the article. Can one has knowledge of being in love, or does he only have true belief ?

Love in all its forms is not an easy subject to grasp. Its complexity makes it so beautiful, because we learn everyday from love. But if we focus on Hatfield’s approaches, we can detect 3 ages or periods about love. Those ages or periods vary depending on the individual, his environment, his social rank, and especially his age. Because I cannot imagine a teenager with a compassion love; young people attach to frivolity rather than compassion. But at the same time it does not this imply that all adults are motivated by compassion love. That is what I call the first age. The second age, I consider it like a transition age where a man or woman wants to settle down, make a family. At this moment, love could be both compassion and passion. At last age, it is a woman or man who still lives with partner after 40 or 50 years even though the worst moment of his /her life. But they still believe in love.

Yes, it's true. We learn about love from our culture which means we get the wrong idea from the movies and the media. But that doesn't necessarily mean that those ideas are bad. And just to be clear being in love doesnt always make people happy. They can be unhappy (or depressed) while still being in love.

And another thing, I don't believe in using material to "pick up girls". It just makes you look silly and says, "Hey, look at me. I have money and can get whoever I want". No! It makes you look like a jerk.

I have to agree with this statement,"an affectional bond based on the universal tendency for humans to seek closeness in order to experience security". Nobody can tell you how or why you feel a certain way (when it comes to love).

To many people the word "love" may be broken down in different meanings depending on how they're brought up. Although many scientists have tried to define it, the perfect definition of this word it's still nowhere to be found. I really like how Zick Rubin proposed that romantic love is made up of three elements: attachment, caring, and intimacy. I say that love is all about the way a person makes you feel deep inside your heart, also the way a person shows you how you can tell them anything and they're there to listen not just because they think its the right thing to do but because its what they want to do because they want to be there for you through the worst times and best times of your life. Love to me is also when a couple feels that they want to be in each others life no matter what, together as if they're one. I believe that when your in love you feel an attachment, caring, and intimacy feeling towards your partner just like Zick Rubn said.

Love is very complicated issue. There are many different forms of love which is why there is not one definition for love. I do believe that love, in a relationship form, depends on how one is raised and by his surroundings growing up. Society these days definitely plays a huge role in ones understanding of love. Kid's these days rely on internet, phones, movies, and music and they have a huge influence on them which can portray, usually negatively, in ones belief of love. It is very complicated to get into the different forms of love, such as the love for one's mother or brother, the love for one's significant other, one's love for God, one's love for a sports team, and so on.

It is hard to touch on "love" as a whole. I believe we as a society have a certain preconceived idea what love is through hollywood, and through what we have learned in our indiviudal homes as we were raised. Hollywood potrays love to be the passionate love,it is potrayed more of what people see as the "honeymoon" stage. I think falling inlove with someone may start with the rush of seretonin and lead into the passionate love, but when truly inlove, later evolves into compassionate love.

I do believe there are different types of love. There is the love you have for your family, the love you have for your friends, and the love you have for your lover. They all somewhat encompass either compassionate love or passionate love,we all know and feel the difference, but all differ in ways that are somehow hard to express through language.

What is love? This could be the question without an answer. Everyone has tried to explain it from scientists to movies to music to each of us but no one has come up with a universal answer.
Is love some kind of disease? One might think it is true. You might find yourself unable to concentrate, wanting to see no one else but that person, thinking how to make that person happy and/or doing crazy things for that person. Does it describe love? NO. This can be considered what Hatfield called Passionate Love, the first stage of a relationship: the one that “arises when cultural expectations encourage falling in love.”
Additionally, I don’t think love is based on “need of attachment”. If it is in fact that humans seek companionship in life, it does not implied that you might find LOVE.
I think love itself is a universal experience. Yet, every individual occurrence - while perhaps bound by a common thread - seems absolutely unique. Therefore, love cannot be given a general/universal definition.
Love being indefinable is what drives companies to produce all this products in order to “show” how much you “love” someone. Society has being “brainwashed” with the ideas of Valentine’s Day, Anniversaries, and so on. But love does not require you to spend all your money in order to show it. Love is unconditional, mutual and priceless .Nonetheless, I would’ve to admit that it is pleasant when a guy gives you something or takes you to a nice restaurant, however, that action does not define his love for you.
Finally, I think love and respect must go hand by hand. Love without respect cannot be consider love; this kind of “love” will lead to domestic violence, rapes and/or murder.

To me, love is not an easy feeling to describe.

Even though everybody feels love, or at least they assure they do, nobody feels the same. For some, love might be a synonym for lust or passion, and for others, love is caring and having strong feelings of commitment and affection for a particular person.

This article shows many theories that seem to explain love, but in my opinion, love is indefinable.

It is true, that our culture promotes such feeling in order to make of this society a much perfected one. When people are in love, their level of happiness increases; they do better at their jobs; they spend more money; and they have reasons for living. But in my opinion, this technique of making “love” an essential part of our lives is great!

Love means different things to different people, based on your past you are able to define what kind of love exactly you have for another person. According to the greeks you can experience love as a form of longing(romance), belonging(affection), desire(attraction), cherishing(friendship) and selfless-giving(christian love). It is the person who chooses what kind of love to give, but what they can’t control is the degree of love because one day you can passionately love someone and then something happens and that love can become hatred or abusive love. I’ve always asked myself how can you say you love someone and then all of the sudden those feelings change and become something else, something you didn’t even know you could feel. The only close answer I could find was that love no matter what kind makes you vulnerable; it is the most confusing feeling, the reason as to why many say that love is blind.

Although love is very hard to explain, many people have different opinions about what it means. To some individuals love may be an obsession, to others it may be affection or passion, and to others it could be as a friendship. Yes it is true that that the system has manipulated us or “brain washed us” into thinking that the only way to show love is through buying things for their significant others’ or even showing their affection. Some people just take it a little further. I believe that love also has to do with the way we were brought up. In some relationships they don’t give each other anything in others they do. I think that Elaine Hatflied gave a really good definition about love. Love is about compassionate love and passionate love. Respect, trust, intense emotions and affection are key elements in a relationship. Some people just take it a few steps down the road. For example what happened to Rihanna was not good in the part of her ex-boyfriend. Once the relationship becomes abusive there is no love, there is obsession. Something scary and one thing that nobody wants to go through because then it can lead to death. Good examples about this are the cases of a homicide and a suicide, we hear in the news. Where the husband or the wife kills their significant other and then kill themselves. Now a days, we here about this almost every minute. This is not love and shouldn’t be accounted as love.

Love like many things in society, can be perverted and coorupted. Media sells it as water for the thirsty. For those who are lonely sitting on their couch watching a Mcdonalds commercials that says "I'm loving it" may very well process it unconciously as "Ah, yes, i AM LOVING it" this desire for love somehow manifests itself to desire for a cheeseburger.....the purity of love has been tangeled in a web of media strategies and social pressures. "You MUST LOVE, love something! someone!anything!" but where are the advertisments for self-discovery? self love? in Hatfields words, compassionate love?....but just because love can be corrupted, it does not take away from it's original form, it is a great product to sell because it IS a great product...Love at it's core is a bond between two minds and two bodies....Love is an emotion that begins with percepion and desire and developes into constant self gratification in pleasing each other physically and emotionally, respecting each others thoughts and desires, Maintaining each others intrest.....Love, is as clearly defined as the mind.
