Power- it’s the root of all evil. Many will do anything and everything to receive power whether it is money or power over a person. For instance, many men of poor and uneducated backgrounds take to the “machismo” attitude where their woman is to serve them whenever they please (even by means of force) whether it is of the household or sexually and will go out of their way to get it- even if it means paying for a “good woman.” Human trafficking obviously is illegal and unethical but those who partake in kidnapping these individuals see it as profit of some sort. The way I see it, they dehumanize these people and treat them as if they were mere flies. It is sad to see that this happens to children as well, for they shall most likely never grow up to see the fault in what has happened to them. The only solution my mind seems to fabricate is taking these recruiters and reteaching them, for they seem to have been brainwashed.

Human trafficking is sucks but it can't be controlled, people are evil. Human traffickers force the introduction of heavy drugs like heroine, crack, meth, and opium to get their victims into their personal money making slaves.

Human trafficking and child slavery is a worldwide problem that will never end. It has been happening for centuries and for the same reason, money. the ones in charge of all of these operations are simply suppliers to their costumers and none of this can't stop until we stop the pimps and bosses but also stop the consumers. These young women and young children are dragged into this because of poor education and poverty. they most probably live in dysfunctional homes with dysfunctional parents and their only way out is to hit the streets. then that's where they meet these people that promise them money, acceptance and love, and these poor young people get trapped in the business. There is really nothing we can do to stop it because it is so common and, unfortunately, popular. Also, when something is done, it is usually the victims that get in trouble and not the men and woman who are making their victims do these illegal and immoral actions. However, there are small organizations standing up to human trafficking and not only catching the bad guys, but also helping the victims. In Washington, DC there is a woman, who was a human trafficking victim herself, who hunts down the pimps and bosses of the streets and attempts to rescue girls in the game and trade. Once she rescues these girls, she helps them cope with what has happened to them and teaches them how to survive and how to move on and never look back at the old life. So, maybe there is a small chance to stop human trafficking, but then again she is only one woman, doing it herself, without the help of authorities. This is a huge problem that should be stopped, but in my opinion I don't think it will ever stop, because again, not only is it the suppliers, but it is also the consumers, and there are just as many consumers as there are suppliers.

The only idea I can come up with to try to solve this apparently invisible problem is to put this men in power to jail but of course this is only the ideal solution.. in a realistic perspective I'm not sure if there is any solution but ideally it would be by creating rehabilitation centers for victims with traumas and psychological problems, including a security system so they are not in danger in any way but this also requires the decision of the victims of entering the rehabilitation centers this is where the scouting crew would come in by pretending they are clients and apprehending the pimps and acquiring the victims. but this is the only ideal solution I can come up with

Power is the devil itself even if it’s not power of money it could also be physical power at the end all comes up to “who is the most powerful” stronger & smarter even educated people whom might appear to be perfectly normal can be abusive of one of his/her workers. They make them over work and give them little paid and this happens all the time everywhere. Also little girls or boys whom don’t have a place to call home ending up selling themselves and becoming sexual slaves this only happens because the “sugar daddy’s” are stronger than them in all three aspects money, strength and in mental state. When a person is been mistreated and abused sometimes we say that it gets to the point that it becomes something voluntary but in reality is just brain wash they don’t longer have the strength to fight at least not mentally and they becomes slaves or they make them addictive to drugs and that way they can control them as they please and abuse them in every way. This happens everywhere there is not country in the whole world who can say It doesn’t happen here because we have to be blind not to see it. We even see it with the homeless people getting mistreated all the time even near the school if not physically is mental but it’s there.

NO, I'm sorry, but this has nothing to do with The devil, Demons or God. It has to do with people taking the children of this earth and telling them they are worthless, and will only get somewhere by doing the bidding of someone that makes them succumb to vile actions against their will. Who’s fault is it? Well I would say it’s the parents, but for some of these children their parent either gave them up, or died shortly after delivering. So nope, that’s not it. Hmm, what about the government, sure they have a couple funds here and there but for the most part these beautiful children are treated as if they wanted to been in these inhospitable conditions. If you ever read or heard an interview with someone that went through this you’d know how impossibly hard it is for them to just run or “get away.” Those that do successfully, which are very few, usually have a story about how a friend that was with them tried and failed horribly. There is no miracle cure for human trafficking now, but hopefully when more and more people hear what is truly going on, more and more will help do something to put it to an end.

After reading the story in USA Today, I must say that human trafficking seems to be the culmination of the worst attributes and tendencies of humans today. These include the willingness to forsake humanity for money, the perverted exploitation of people that are weak and needy, and also the willingness of people to satisfy their sexual cravings by paying for sex with these helpless victims. I’m sure that a lot of us would find it hard to imagine how a person can come up with the idea of sexually enslaving and brutally abusing a helpless child, just so they can make money. Yet there are also some of us that may see nothing wrong with it. When it comes down to it, it is we the people that need to end it. If we have personality traits that allow us to exert authority over others, we can use them for noble purposes, and we can use them for malicious purposes. When we satisfy our sexual cravings, we can do it in ways that are respectful to others, and we can do it in ways that hurt others. It is all up to us.

The only way human trafficking is gonna stop is the day where there is no demand to be supplied. As long as people are willing to pay money for these services it is always going to continue.

Just like the chain food, the human traffic is an entire coming back. what do i mean about that is you have a rich corporation that traffic girls the client that get the girl and the money going back to the rich who is the one spending on the girl. If you want to stop human traffic is up to you. If nobody will go to those poor sometimes innocent girl it would never happen on the first time. But, imagine a world without human traffic is like a world without cop; as a police officer they need action. Human traffic is not going to stop unless we stop it ourselves. First mission for you future rich is to stop going to the corner and pick up girl and maybe it will diminish the human traffic but do not expect the police to stop that issue because he needs a job :)....

i can only imagine the type of betrayal and anger that the people who are involved in Human trafficking feel about the world. lives being controlled by guns, drugs and our own kind. The problem ends when greed for pleasure ends. Workers with low pay and long working hours, drug users, etc. are drawn in by the vulnerable victims with a certain price. With greater population, poverty, and lack of law enforcement Human trafficking will continue to boom in all these areas :/

Human trafficking to me is one of the worst because the people have no say so or rights on what is happening. To know that they drug the person is devastating because then you put yourself in those shoes and 5 times out of 10 you probably would know what to do with yourself.

I believe that this is a serious matter that has been given little light. I don't believe that the addiction to power is the soul cause for the Hyannis crimes committed, I believe that ignorance and poverty play a key role in lifes of not only the ubducters, but also the abductees. It's very rare that you here about crimes like these taking place in high income well established neighborhoods. I believe that the first step that should be taken is education. Think about all the main source of crime that goes on in the united states. Most crimes committed take place in low income poverty filled community's. The people who commit crimes and almost always people that have little to no education. I believe that we need to stop looking at ignorance as a state of mind but as a disease. Because that what it is, it's a plague that take over neighborhoods which shadows its people and doesn't allow them to move forward in life. In order to tackle not only this kind but all kids of crimes, we have to start in our back yards. We have to start new programs that help these kind of neighborhoods and people lets stop being afraid to step foot in a certain area and be more afraid of the ramifications that will continue to take place if we don't take action.

Human trafficking is a social disease that must dealt aggressively and without remorse for it's perpetrators.Along with warlords and drug lords, those that engage in a) sales of humans b)those who aid the sales of humans and c) those who purchase humans should be pursued across international lines, and be hunted down along with their other illegal enterprises. The same applies to prostitution. Some people may say that its a woman's legal right to sell her body to whomever she wants. As much as entertaining the thought of idealistic freedoms, prostitution is almost always(along with human trafficking) linked with other criminal activities.

Sadly, as much as my own idealism eludes me, human trafficking will probably never be dealt as it should. The ruling class will never be satisfied with what they have, either it be sex, drugs, war, money or simply just the feeling of subjecting someone to their will, as long as their is a demand;there will always be a supplier. But that shouldn't stop us from discussing and usurping the kingpins with whatever tools we do have at our disposal, the most powerful being the internet and mass communication.

Human trafficking, prostitution, child labor are epidemics that have plagued our society for years. The more civilized we think we became the more inhumane we are becoming. These predicaments are plaguing every country, state and city; no matter how much we try to hide them, they constantly flourish because we turn a blind eye on these predicaments. Countries and the UN preach about these problems they even pass laws but yet we don’t see much action actually being done. No solution=no change=more severe problem becomes. So what can we do to solve this problem? The only way to solve the problem is to find the root of the problem and how this problem functions. To me, human trafficking +prostitution+child labor+...…= businesses that abide by the laws of supply and demand. What I mean by that that is, if there isn’t a demand for such services, e.g. prostitution, the market will not supply these services, as simple as that. How can we achieve a decrease or even elimination of the demand of such services? Well that’s easy, create international laws that have much more serious consequences if broken and IMPLEMENT these laws. Society as a whole must want a change for a change to actually occur. The police and even Interpol must take these predicaments seriously because they are affecting our economy and society’s health. The perpetrators/offenders must receive the maximum/ severe sentencing/punishment and the victims must be rehabilitated and helped to integrate back to society. It is time we take this problem serious and we act rather than just talk about a problem, our societies must put some effort if they want a solution, nothing comes easy. Lastly , we must all unite and lets not blame the victims but rather we should incarcerate the perpetrators and make an example of them .So if anyone, e.g. John Doe considers soliciting a prostitute (minor or adult) he will think twice.

Slavery still exists and it can exist right under our noses. I know many believe that this an issue that only occurs in other parts of the world, in undeveloped countries, although that is not true. For example, I’ve been reading over the last couple of days and found out Ohio is known as one of the states with the worst human trafficking occurences. There’s even a site where one can get involved to help stop this issue. Here’s another case on this article and this occurred right here in Florida. Now you ask “Is there something we can do?” The answer is very tough. Obviously this isn’t a thing you can resolve right away, but the best thing to do at the moment is spread awareness. Many of this country’s people do not have any knowledge about this issue. As others have mentioned above, not enough light is being shed onto this subject. Several individuals do not think this sort of thing can exist in their nation or even yet the rest of the world. After spreading this news the next thing to be done is to search for these operations. But of course, shutting down these operations will some take time because of how secretive they can be. It is up to us to help stop this and put an end to human trafficking and slavery.

Human trafficking is a horrible thing. But it's happening right now and we need to put a stop to it because no one deserves this kind of treatment. There's is no easy solution to this problem but some changes should be made. People as a whole need to start caring more about each other and the welfare of others. We need to realize that we are all human and we are all the same and no one needs to be treated as if they are less.  We need to stop dehumanizing others. There need to not be a demand for these horrible crimes. And there needs to not be people that to make some money will go to the extremes of selling children for sexual exploitation.

Human trafficking is a terrible problem! The only ting I believe we can do about it is just by making more people aware. Human trafficking is hardly talked about but it is a major problem I feel that if more people knew about the statistics of what is really going on maybe they would be more inclined to take action. The actions a normal human being can take are minimal compared to that of a police officer because they can actually investigate and make arrest. I don't think any normal human being should try to take it that far just spread the word of what is happening in our community & be able to notice suspicious activity so you can report it. These people in power who take advantage of this situation are jus pitiful and disgusting they could take their money to give these children and women a better life yet, they'd rather practically rape them forced sex is rape. These men are rapist. People need to think about it as if it were their children, or sister, or mother I'm sure they would act then.

I couldn’t agree with you more that the problem behind human trafficking is the age old problem of social poverty and lack of resources. This scenario is not unlike the point you brought up weeks ago in class about the people who are killing elephants in Africa because it’s the only viable option they have if they want to survive. I’ve been telling this to people for years, and I think it holds true for this case as well, but no one I’ve ever met in my entire life has said to me “Jeremy, when I was a young child I always dreamt of being a prostitute” or “I always had aspirations to be a drug dealer as I was growing up.” There is a reason for this. Everyone would like to live the glamorous life that they see on TV and sometimes of other people in real life. Although everyone has a chance – even if it be only a slight glimmer of hope – to be successful, many people are given such a poor opportunity due to social and economic conditions that the only viable alternative to prosper or at least have a decent quality of life is to pimp out these young children or on the other hand, for these young children to run away from home and begin a life of prostitution and being abused.
Unfortunately, all I listed there were problems and the solutions are much harder to come by. The only reasonable options that people who have been blessed with better circumstances really have are to donate money to charities that help these people and elect a government who will be so vigilant to attend the needs of those who are poor and give them a fair chance to transcend the ghettos and slums that only entrap and lead to ruin.

As long as there is a demand for it and it makes as much money as it does (an estimated 42.5 billion dollars annually is a hell of a lot of money) I don't see how there is a way to change this right away, or it being easy. It would be wonderful if it were that simple, that if we put our minds to it we could stop it, but we all know that dealing with these issues are never easy. This is what always happens when powerful people are involved; money always comes out on top. It is really horrible what those people have to go through, specially the children, and it makes me want to help as much as I can. A way to start could be by spreading awareness about the issue to as many as possible. Most seem to have no idea that such things are still going on in the world. We might not be able to help everyone that is being affected by this issue, but maybe we will be able to help a few.

Alright y'all, it's time to talk about my favorite psychological prison experiment: The Stanford Prison Experiment! Are you guys excited? I'm excited.
At Stanford, Dr. Philip Zimbardo got some regular, white, middle-class males, and told some of them to be prisoners and some of them to be guards. After only six days the experiment stopped because the guards had become too abusive. The gaurds punished prisoners by removing their mattresses, forcing them to shit and piss into buckets in their room, and by calling them only by their numbers.
Human beings, in the current state of consciousness, will always abuse power given to them. Look at our government. Look at the police. Look at the managers in your job. If people have the power to completely control other people, abuse is unavoidable. Once you control someone, you lose respect for them. Once that happens, an 'us vs them' mentality begins to take hold. The people you control start to seem less than human. Your defense mechanisms turn on and say, “You're helping them. They need your control to save them, because they cannot save themselves. Forgive them, for they know not what they do.” But really, you are only helping yourself.
Without a significant, global shift in consciousness for all people, the evils of our monkey brains will continue to plague the conscience of the people of the world.

Human trafficking has been going on longer than any of us can remember. That is why it will never come to an end. Being power-hungry doesn't really have anything to do with participating in human trafficking. There are more "sex slaves" than "pimps" and there is a tremendous difference between the two. People say that they have no other choice but to resort to this kind of work. That's a lie! You see plenty of people living on the street, not selling themselves and then complaining afterwards because it wasn't all the rainbows and butterflies they thought it was going to be. Asia Graves wasn't a special case. There are billions of YOUNGER women out there. Women who didn't choose to have sex with a man because she was, "homeless, desperate for food, shelter and stability," but because she was FORCED to do so. I many sound a little harsh, and some may think that I'm saying this because I haven't been in this situation. That's true, but my life hasn't been 100% financially stable. I haven't had to live on the street but I've gotten pretty close. People do this to THEMSELVES. They are naive and stupid! There are plenty of educated women who will do things like this because they feel like it's their last chance. I don't think this situation relates to power as much as people think it does. It has more to do with ignorance. Participants think that they will receive love and care, and that they will be financially stable. They want to see something good in something so wrong and that's completely their fault.

There is nothing we can do to stop this. There are things that we can do to help prevent it, to teach children that no matter what there is always another choice. It has been going on for too long, and has developed into a four headed, fire-breathing dragon.

I really like your closing paragraphs and must say I agree 100% with them.

When it comes to human trafficking, it's just an issue that disgusts me so much. The thought that for money someone could actually play with someone else's life... specially if that person is against this. It really does bother me too much. I respect women that work in the sexual field, to put it that way, because I know I'm no one to judge no one else. If that's the way she wants (or actually, anyone, even a guy, it's just that women are usually the sexual workers) to make money, then why would anyone else feel in their right to judge or criticize them? But being a trafficked person is a whole other deal. It's something you have no say in, something against your will, and simply a complete treason. The lengths that human greed can go to... I wish the punishment for these monsters was way more severe. Even more severe than the punishment some had in the movie Taken.

This is a great awareness video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-a8dAHDQoo

Human trafficking is indeed a serious issue in our society. I believe that society should be aware of this issue because it affects all of us .Informing the public should be a priority so they can have a sense of what's going on every minute of every day. It should be taught in schools where kids as well as parents and staff can be fully aware of the madness that goes on in today's world. By spreading the news to everyone out there someone can lend a hand and help these poor innocent children from being these "modern day slaves"
